My previous truck was a Crew with 6.5 and I ordered a Crew with 6.5. When I was in the market for my first truck and I was looking to buy a truck with a 6.5' bed, it was very difficult to find, because they are not the 'norm' anymore. For resale you'll have less competition with the 6.5' bed, but you're also going to need to find a buyer that either wants it, or doesn't mind it.

Up in Minnesota here, it seems the 6.5' beds are more popular in rural areas where the 5.5' bed is the inner city trucks. Either way if you keep the clean and in good running order, you'll find a buyer.
It seems to be about a 75/25 split of 5.5/6.5 beds here in our corner of MN. I'm with the 25% because I want my portable fish house and all the equipment to fit in the back!

I think 6.5 would fetch more in resale market because they will be harder to find, you just might need to wait a little longer for the right buyer to show up looking specifically for a 6.5 bed.

Just look at dealer lots on east coast, there are hardly any 6.5 f150s, and as soon as an unclaimed one shows up it is snatched immediately.

But i tend to agree with earlier posters, making a buying decision based on resale value instead of own’s personal desires is never a way to go if one wants to truly enjoy his rig.

My 2014 and 2018 were 6.5' beds. My incoming 2021 is a 5.5'. Here in central Texas the dealers and Carmax didn't seem to care about the longer bed when getting trade-in estimates.

The 6.5' is generally harder to find, so you might get a small bump in resale value if you sell privately. Small business owners should want the longer bed to qualify for accelerated depreciation tax-wise, but I suspect that's not widely known.

UpSlash I just ordered a 2022 F-150 Platinum Sept 30th with a 6.5 bed. Would not have it any other way.

I think this is largely a regional thing. Bigger cities and garage Parkers seem to want the 5.5. I wanted a 6.5 bed but couldn’t find one so I live with the 5.5. I think if you have a well optioned truck it may not sell for a lot more, but you’ll have less competition and a consumer group that are specifically looking for a 6.5 so it may sell quicker. As far as trade in value it’s probably negligible.

I dont think one will get you more money in trade vs the other. I personally would not buy a 6.5 bed as the 5.5 does everything I need it to.

It also depends on how old the truck is when sold, most buyers looking at 10-12 year old trucks aren't going to notice the difference between a 5.5' or 6.5' bed crew cab until they try parking at Trader Joe's.

Most sellers don't seem to care about the configuration of their trucks either after a certain point. Before I gave up on buying a used truck, I had to guess from pictures or look up key differences with the VINs to find out how the truck was equipped. Some people didn't even bother to write which engine was in their truck.

I agree with buy what you want and like the best. I have a crew cab 5.5 bed and it works for me, bed size really didn't matter much to me though. If I need more room I have a trailer for bigger and longer loads.

I went for a supercab so I could get the 6 foot bed standard and still fit in my garage with 2 foot to spare

just food for thought

Some people might say supercab owners don’t care about their passengers… and No we don’t! Sit down, shut up, and hang on!
