It sounds more likely that he was playing you.

Was that loss MSRP-invoice?

There are more payments from Ford (or another) to the dealer *after* the sale. So the dealer does indeed pay invoice, but some of it comes back.

It's not like Granger is losing money selling at 4% under invoice.

Having read this thread I would like to tell my story. I have owner Ford F100s and F150s since 1973. Every one of those trucks was trouble free. The 73 had many miles pulling a trailer with a race car, the bed loaded with tires, gas and oil and was sold with 150K on it. The 83 was just a "handy man" type use and performed well for almost 200K. The 93 was again a handy man usage and sold it with just 83K on it. My wife could no longer ride without a reclining seat. A 2010 extended cab was next, it was used to pull a trailer with 50s and 60s cars as I searched, found, fetched, fixed, played with then sold those cars to get the next one. Also made many trips visiting family. After 100K it was traded for a 2016. We put 90K on it, again light duty before deciding to "upgrade" to a 2024 Lariat. It will most likely be the last new truck for us, bar any unforeseen issues. To this point (delivered 28 July) a little over 1000 and very happy with it! All the previous trucks were XLTs, all had V-8s with the 10 being the first automatic.

Mind you, the trucks have been great, the passenger cars I have owned over the year have all been fantastic as well. They started after my fist trip home from Nam in 67. 63 1/2 Galaxy 500, 390/4speed/3.89T-lock. 70 Boss 302 (did a little SCCA B Sedan). 76 Mercury Capri, 85 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, 90 Super Coupe, 99 Mustang Cobra, 03 Cobra, 08 Shelby GT500 and now an 18 Lincoln MKZ.
