apples aren't watermelons either.

Totally different conversations.
Nice try tho.
True, but this is the 3rd generation of a well-proven platform that's purpose built for precisely what it is. Hell by gen 2 they'd only really had cam phasers to deal with. Now comes others trying to do the same and toyota and ram are having a bitch of a time. GM's 4 banger is hanging in there but it lacks for power in this segment.

The point of 'more parts more problems' -- goes for cylinders too. The C/B ratio, parts availability, and just the number of them out there still kicking is proof that it's viable. It could use a bigger rad for edgecase towing as nobody is going to pretend a TT motor runs cool.

IMO the latest gens of the 3.5 and 5.0 are both bulletproof compared to previous iterations.

However, for this study, I would say that the 3.5 has at least 50% more historical sales volume than the 5.0. Which means that the 5.0 is clearly winning here for rate of engines > 150K miles.

We all share the most common weakness IMO -- the 10 speed.

Just went to autotrader, selected all new F150s, selected the 3.5L
Ford F-150 Reliability study shows EcoBoost 3.5L V6 on top 1740676024238-e5

And the 5.0

This pretty much pans out as the ratio I saw 2 years ago and 6mo ago. Don't have the means to find strictly the 3.5L as the 3.3 will muddy the results.

Here's 2011+ crew cab trucks w/ 5.0 over 200k on used market

and crew 3.0-3.9L

Not that these numbers mean anything as the ratio starting in 2011 isn't known. Limited it to 2015 over 200k miles and it's the same ratio. Just data, can't draw conclusions from it.

If you want to add qualifiers to your statement, your welcome to, otherwise I'll stand by my comment.
This is an F150 forum, not Peterbilt forum.

Agee the new gens are far better than the Gen 1 and Gen 2. Also could be said about the 5.0.
But I think overall years and years of mileage, the 5.0 will have far less issues.
Turbo adding heat and oiling issues, turbos going out, etc just adds more complexity. Understand why most manufactures are gong to small TT or single turbo engines for EPA standards, but IMHO, not for me. Not yet anyways.

This is hardly a “study”, it’s a poorly cobbled together article with ignored variables and poorly vetted information.
You make some strong, opinionated, and rude statements with very little reasoning, no references, and no data to back up any of your claims unlike the article. We can debate the merits and conclusions of the data without being offensive to the author.

case in point: I already need a new CDF drum after babying my truck 20k miles and never towing. Luckily before warranty. An independent tech wouldn't even drop my pan for a fluid change after test driving it. Told me go straight to dealer to get a new drum. Bang cluck clunk goes the 10 speed.

Only you perceive it as rude because it upsets you . No data provided on overall sales, engine replacements, service history, % of vehicles totaled. The OP invited this rhetoric with his tone in the original post anyway, no sympathy he’s getting called out.

Well, I can tell you that Ford owners are really passionate about our trucks - we defend them harder, we work them very hard and we are super critical of them too. Plus the Chevy and maybe the Ram owners like to bash Ford's for sport ... honestly, I think we as a group are far more realistic and fair with our comments, add on the bashing and of course we can look bad. That being said - the EB is a really good motor, IF you do your maintenance and don't beat it down every time you drive it ... just like anything else. I have had four of them - the first three well over 100K and the current at 78K miles - absolutely no engine trouble. Covid created other issues, but the engines are solid. It is really hard if not impossible to get manufacturer defect rates, but I have to think the new EB engines are at the top in reliability - thank god I didn't get a 5.3 or the Ram new I-6 or especially the Toyota 3.4 (but that one will perform over time too).

It's funny that he'll dish it but can't take it. Here's what my primary browser sees ;)

There are some folks here who are net negatives. He blocked me after I created him an ai generated image of a V8 altar to worship upon. He's tries real hard to justify his purchase to everyone else. I was banging gears in my blown cobra when his mommy was still wiping his ass.

He’s talking about me, I don’t think he realizes how many people have him blocked on here. I was added to a group chat called “just block Hammaman” about a month after I joined this forum. I should have taken their advice much sooner, eventually I did.
