I've had a lot of regular cab work trucks but they were always long box with toppers and tools. Can anyone comment on a 14th gen regular cab short box compared to a crew cab short box? For ride quality

I hear the shorties are choppy and ride worse but is it really noticeable? My 4wd crew rides pretty well for a truck. Better than my 20 f150 crew did and much better than the 18 Silverado before that.

Normally a longer chassis vehicle is gonna ride better and feel less bumps due to more "travel" for the vibrations

Are you talking about the crew cab with the little doors or the super crew with the 4 big doors?

Anyway in comparison my last was a 15" supercab and the one now is a regular cab short box and it definitely isn't a Cadillac when it comes to ride quality.

That being said I live in an area of Illinois with the worst roads imaginable and it beats me to death sometime.

To the point that I wonder if it is going to wear it out quicker than normal.

The 15 might have rode a little bit better but I bought it with 45,000 miles so it might have been pre softened up suspension wise.

The 22 regular cab just turned 20,000 and it hasn't softened up any yet. I also wonder how the wear and tear of the roads around here are going to affect the lane centering when the steering gets some play in it.

I have a supercrew with OEM 18" wheels and tires. I'd do the same on a regular cab. No 22s or LT tires

I don't know what size the 24's tires are in regular cab but the 22 it's 17 inch. People used to say you would get a better ride with more sidewall but it's definitely not a car like ride.

But I didn't buy it for the ride quality. Bought it because it was a little cheaper and I like the looks of a regular cab short bed. The 3.73 gears I ordered and the 5.0 are just icing on the cake.

I think the 24's you can get in a two wheel drive with the 3.73 gear now. I would have done that in a heartbeat 2 years ago.

Get yourself a decent salesperson and spend a good chunk of the day trying out trucks. There’s so many other factors and it’s really subjective; so best to see for yourself first hand.

There is a difference because of the will base but also are you getting fx4 , 2nd ? I have. 22 single cab 5.0 4x4 ride is not bad but not as good as crew cab. what’s the end goal price, ride quality, all these things go in to this. You should really go try and ride a Short cab.. They have come a long way with the fit and finish even on these xl base single cab trucks.. 24 single cabs now will have digital dash and 12” center screen standard. You get a xl single cab 24 ,go on eBay get a leather steering wheel for like $250 and some brand new lariat leather seat covers for like $200 and you would a real nice single cab. The crew cab center console even fits right in . Just some food for thought. mine is xlt but I have added the leather seat covers and the center console and I love it. Good luck.

I’ve had two regular cab short trucks in my lifetime.
The 78 Chev was a bit “choppy” and rough riding, but it had the max weight rating at 6200.
82 Dodge d150, soft riding to point of downright mushy.
Maneuvering this thing anywhere was a piece of cake.
Many reg cab long beds, even the 6200GVW rode nice. Not nearly as choppy as the shorties, but more thought necessary in tighter spaces.

2 extended cab shortbeds, but the Ranger really don’t count.
But the Ranger was a rough riding bouncy little truck, never did really care for it.
98 Chev extended cab shortbed, 2nd smoothest hiway truck I’ve ever had (beat out by a 97 c-10 longbed). Not so nice in city traffic conditions. I’ve had several people tell me they are impressed with the ride and solidness of that truck—outward appearance is very deceiving.

21 Longbed SuperCab. Rides real nice but firm. Excellent hiway ride, does not like washboard surfaces at all. Can’t park this thing anywhere. That’s okay by me, I’m rural and avoid the population like the plague

the longer the wheelbase, the nicer the ride.
This comes at the expense of getting around parking lots or tight city streets.

I know th long wheelbase rides better. Just hoping someone would say I've had both in 14th gens and here is what I think.

Regular cabs are hard to find on lots and it seems no one wants you to test drive more than 10-15 miles.

While I have not tested a crew cab I can say I'm truly impressed with the ride on my 4x4 regular cab. It has the stock suspension and 17 inch Pirelli tires. In my experience larger diameter wheels with shorter sidewalls will stiffen (worsen?) the ride, as will lowering and/or lifts.

While regular cabs are more difficult to find they are also more unique on the road. I guess it all depends on what you want.

I've got the opposite opinion. My truck rides harsh. Real harsh. It feels about the same as my buddy's lifted square body. My cousin's husband has a 13th gen SuperCab which is significantly nicer to ride around in. My '09 Ram 1500 ST was much nicer, too. This truck just feels every minor bump in the road, no matter the speed. I'm guessing it has to do with getting the tow package - stiffer springs and whatnot - but adding 650lbs of concrete to the bed didn't help, so I'm not sure exactly what the problem is. 17" wheels, stock suspension.

Does the tow package come with Light Truck tires? Mine didn't.

Unsure. I don't see "LT" on the tire before the size, but I also don't see "P", so I don't know.

Pirelli Scorpion ATR, 265/70R17 115T M+S

A stiffer sidewall due to being light truck tires would certainly contribute to the harsher ride.
If there is no "P" that's what they are. P-metric/passenger. Those are the same tires I have on my truck. It just goes to show everyone has different perceptions on ride comfort.

I've got the 4x4 xl rcsb too and I agree that mine drives like a brick. On a concrete freeway with the expansion joints, it rattles my eyeballs to where I can't even see straight. I'm looking into some different shocks/coilovers but I'm not sure if would help any at all because it seems that all new shocks are listed as being stiffer than stock.
