My 2024 Lariat with 850 miles on it is in the shop getting the rear pinion seal replaced right now. ?My 2022 Lariat Powerboost just had its rear pinion seal replaced for the second time in 1 year.
My guess is they’re just replacing the seal and NOT checking the sealing surface the flange, or replacing it. As the seal will wear a groove in it. My fear is some techs are not gear wise and can easily screw up pinion preload.. Happened on my 2019 before I traded it.UPDATE: I am now at 43k miles and the pinion seal is leaking again. This one made it a whole 25k miles before going out again. It seems like this is a pretty common issue, has ford done anything to try and fix this? Or is it just junk parts? Pinion seals should last a lot longer than 20-30k miles. My old trucks original pinion seal lasted 200k.
Happened on mine too. My rear end started to whine after the first pinion seal replacement and I've taken it back multiple times and they tell me its the transmission pump (which I know is BS) so I'm afraid to take it back to the same place again for this leak, I would look elsewhere but every other ford dealer is at least an hour from meMy guess is they’re just replacing the seal and NOT checking the sealing surface the flange, or replacing it. Is it dripping onto the ground or just weeping and looks wet? If a weep they won't do anything, until it drips. My 2022 was dripping all this summer and they changed the seal twice and then replaced the pinion gear and bearings because it was then whining around 40mph. Has been fine since.my 2025 2.7l is leaking at 4200 miles and my local dealer would not touch it.
