Dang that stinks that the noise is still there. Hopefully that gives you some leverage to get a refund (if they made you pay out of pocket). I had the pinion seal replaced on my ‘22 at 51k miles and I know they don’t drain/re-fill the rear, they just top off any fluid lost. I paid separately for a diff flush at the same time. You will obviously have new fluid from the bearing replacement since the cover has to come off, just a PSA for anyone who is only getting the pinion seal replaced. That doesn’t mean you get new fluid, just a top off.

I know if mine ever needs taking apart for any serious work, I’ll be going to a local rear-end shop to swap in a proper LSD since I have the 3.73 open diff.

The thing that's fishy about this whole thing is on the receipt it says nothing about the rear diff cover even coming off, no mention of gasket sealer in the parts list and they only said fluid "topped off" and it appears the diff cover wasn't even off. So they couldn't have even replaced the bearing without the diff cover off. So what they are telling me isn't adding up

I was sure I had the proverbial pinion seal leak on my Mustang, or at least the differential leak once I crawled under to service the differential. It had always had what I describe as a ringing, some say whining. I drove it for probably 50K miles or so this way. Well not wanting to change the pinion seal myself I took it to my friend at my local Aamco. He said, nope, no leaks, not even the pinion seal but he verified the rear end ringing that the dealer BTW couldn't hear. He found inside a bad bearing, see attached. So couple of thousand bucks later no noise and smooth running again. Maybe your F150 has a bearing issue similar to my Mustang had.

I'm certain its a bearing that's bad on mine. It's going to the dealer again next week for the third time. Hopefully they can hear it and don't give me the run around and it gets corrected.

I had pinion seal replaced at 20k and now rear end leaking again

Been back to the dealer 3 times now, they are certain it is the transmission pump that is whining which they (ford) claim is normal. I personally don't agree with that because I am positive I didn't have this noise before all this and I don't know why or how it would just start whining now. But I've got another 38,000 miles on my powertrain warranty still so I've just been driving it and seeing if the noise gets worse, which after 2k miles since all this it hasn't really gotten worse at all so I really don't know. I've thought about taking it to another dealer for a 2nd opinion but I haven't yet because the next closest dealer is an hour away

sorry I have a 2021 f150 .
how many miles did you make it on the replacement? Starting to think there is something else wrong with these rear ends with how common this has been. They shouldn't be going through pinion seals like that

Oh and also now when I back up and put truck into forward it seems to lag and then clunk into forward.

That can’t be normal
I do have a rear end whine but only when coasting and switching to 4W Hi makes it quit or lightly touching throttle
Of course Ford says normal
I also have huge hesitation/slipping if immediately putting in drive after starting but not in reverse
None of that could be normal but I can live with it
That hesitation and clunk you have if you allow 20-30 seconds after cold start does it eliminate that issue?
