Did anyone else get an email and letter for program 23B24 regarding the tailgate step grab handle?

Thanks!

OK, so this is something I can check for myself and if all is well I can skip the whole dealership....... thing?

I did the same with the rear brake harness/axle chafing issue as well.

Unfortunately, I don't see anything to verify that a specific vehicle is affected without taking it to the dealership.

True. There's no build date fencing or anything similar. But it does explain what the concern is. (handle failing to latch in vertical position)
With that information I have both the confirmation that my truck has functioned properly the many times I have already used it, as well as knowing that I should inspect the latching mechanism regarding.

I will take it in if I see any evidence that the components that are in play for that latch look suspect.

Seems like if we could find out what lot number range is effected then we could check ourselves.

It should be easy enough to simply check the handle for any excessive play or slop in the latch. I will check mine later today, if I remember. I haven't received any letter yet.

I guess that part that I don't know is would it be noticeable now, or is there a defect that can cause the issue in the future?

So I went out and inspected my tailgate step handle. There is no appreciable slop or looseness in the mechanism . There is a positive engagement when the handle is swung in the upright position. There is no corrosion present anywhere that would prevent the locking mechanism from fully engaging once the handle is upright. However you are applying a significant stress to the handle when you grab the top to help yourself up. Maybe a heavy person has used their step a lot and has exceeded the weight limit causing the lock to deform . I don't know the weight limit for the step, but I have heard 400 lbs.

Yep, I got this earlier this week as well- though mine seems to be functioning pretty well; Only used it a dozen or so times over the past 9 months though.

Removed the stripper pole off my 2011 with step. It was dumb design. The new one looks much better but I still don't see point in the handle.

I'm 65.
I grab that handle every time I climb up or down. Without thinking about why. I think it's the same reason I no longer run up or down the stairs to my office without using the handrail.
20 years ago I KNOW I use to scurry up them quicker and without touching the rails.

Honestly, I've only ever pulled the handle out once. I wish they offered this "unlimited mileage" customer satisfaction program on shit that actually mattered.
