Mine just had this happen while sitting at a traffic light. Its getting an oil change and rear axle wiring recall performed in two weeks. I'll try not to forget about this one.

I haven't had my tailgate open by itself in 37k miles yet. Fortunately I suppose, even if the tailgate popped loose, it can't come down. This is due to the type of tonneau cover I have. It's one piece Undercover brand tonneau. It hangs over the sides and rear slightly.Sorry for bumping an old thread.
I've now had the unintentional tailgate opening twice this summer, both times while towing a trailer. The first time was in June and I found it open when pulling over at a rest stop and was perplexed; I completely forgot about seeing this CSB and was trying to figure out how I managed to leave it down or if the fob button got pushed while in my pocket or something. That time I somehow escaped without any damage.
This weekend we took the trailer on another trip and I got the dreaded fellow motorist honking and waving at me. Pulled over and the tailgate was down again. Put it up and continued, and while driving I remembered seeing this CSP and then it clicked that this must be what's happening. Unfortunately, I discovered that this time the tailgate got damaged and my tongue jack sounds louder now so it's probably tweaked too.
I bought the truck used so I never got the letter that is referenced earlier in this thread, but it kind of sounds like Ford will fix the issue as well as damage caused by this issue? That's my reason for posting I guess. I'm wondering if anyone else who has had damage from this unintended opening was successful in getting it repaired under the CSP. I don't care so much about the trailer jack but I'd really like my tailgate to be repaired.
Also, I see the message saying that the fix includes modifying the truck so you can't open the tailgate at all while the truck is running even in park. That seems really inconvenient? Has anyone else had a different experience with the fix?
