Glad they made it good for you. I was fortunate that my truck was still driveable when my shifter started acting up. Took it to the dealer, they ordered a new GSM, called me when it was in and took 2 hrs to replace it and the battery. But it sounds like you had a good experience all around.
Glad you had a good experience as well and you didn't get stranded.

My gsm finally came in at the second dealership. The first dealership I took it to called me Wednesday and told me the part arrived over a month ago but my service advisor got fired for stealing items from cars and the work order was lost in the process. I decided to go ahead and schedule the replacement with the second dealership on Monday. Hopefully this addresses the issue.

Yesterday I received the same message. I have noticed my shifter lever will sometimes stick when i try to lower it. After i got the "Service Soon" notification, I came here and seen all the chat in regards to the same situations. Ultimately Im sure the module or mechanism will need to be replace but I did manage to clear the notification.

So after I received the notification, I drove the truck around for a bit (2 miles). When I came back home I tried to lower the shifter and it began to stick again. I gently applied two fingers to push and pull the shifter just to slightly assist it. Once I did that for about 3-4 attempts back to back then the lever began to lower. Once it lowered correctly then the code cleared...for now.

SheltrRap, IMO, you are playing with "fire" by lowering the gear shift lever. Causing the unit to back-drive can initiate failure modes. Besides lowering, opening your door before you have the gear shift lever in park will cause a back-drive and subsequent failure. You are the toast. This has happened with my GSM 2x. I explained above how I was lucky enough to get out of it. I have stopped counting after 2 dozen "System Alerts". No word when my replacement will get in.

I’m pretty sure they gave it to whoever is in line after me. Plus I wouldn’t recommend working with that dealership, they are literally the worst. I’m certain they would find a way to mess up shipping you the unused gsm.

Took over 2 mos for the shifter to come in for mine. Have had the F150 Lariat since Nov and the diagnosis in April was it needed an update, then of course the shifter. Now it's the dang driver's seat with a collapsed type feeling.

If your shifter is acting up I wouldn’t wait on it. The second time mine threw an error the first stop light I reached the truck applied the parking brake and froze and couldn’t be moved, had to have it towed to a dealer.

My new GSM finally came in! I have driven with my fingers crossed for 4,500 miles with the faulty GSM and over two dozen "Service Soon" notification. When I dropped the truck at the dealer yesterday, the Powertrain/Service Soon warning had just disappeared (again). When I picked the truck up this morning, the service rep started laughing. He said the GSM went into its failure mode when they first went to move it. Then 15 minutes later, started working again so they took the truck to oil change crew prior to the GSM replacement. Bad idea! The truck turned into a paper weight on the oil rack as the shift wouldn't come out of Park. They had to tow it back to the bay for GSM replacement.

I think I will go buy a lottery ticket!

Oh, I asked about the GSM part number. They said it was an updated unit, part# RL3Z 7210 DC.

Oh wow. Yeah, I'd buy a lottery ticket right now.
I'm guessing mine is working fine after they put the new one in. It's been back in the shop all week with my seat issue. Saw it outside yesterday on the way home. Stopped to see if it was ready. Now they say they've got to plug it up for the seat to "re-learn" all its supposed to do. All total, Ford has had my truck about 10-12 days in this total fiasco. Thinking seriously of trading it in and go with GMC. Looking back, I should have listened to my wife and kept my 2018.

Got my truck back. They had to order basically a new bottom seat portion. Feels amazing now after 2nd of sitting in a hole it seemed. The gentleman who diagnosed and fixed said the springs were shot and shouldn’t be that way being so new. Relieved that someone finally figured it out.

BTW, it took 3 weeks for my replacement GSM to arrive. Hope others are as fortunate.

dftower, this is a good question. My dealer's parts department said they are on back order with no delivery date. They also said the GSM part no. had a code attached to it indicating Ford was contracting with a second source. Whoosh reported his 2025 had a bad GSM which is past the Nov 2024 manufacturing cutoff of the TSB. I sure hope none of us get a new GSM that is prone to further failures.
XMAN, I see you finally got your GSM. I got my truck back on Friday as well. 45 days later (7/8/25) later for me. I hope everyone else is taken care of soon!! Never heard from my Ford advocate again. So, I doubt I will be getting one of those Ford checks that the other gentleman on here received...Good luck everyone!!

Been getting these errors every couple weeks for months. Usually restarting the truck clears it. Mobile tech came out today and said the PCM was throwing a code and not the GSM, so he couldn't do anything other than clear the code and see if it returns. It didn't. Happy Friday, rinse & repeat, it'll come back soon. Sigh.
