Is this affecting the whole 2024 model year or was there a revision during the year ?
The service bulletin issued by ford is for the 21-24 f150, so I assume it’s for the whole model year. Mine is a late job 2 truck and it has the issue.

I took my truck in early in June and they had a new shifter in about a week for me. Since it was replaced, I haven't had any issues at all. The more trucks that report the issue, the bigger the backlog on orders. What used to be a week is now indefinite. Good luck to all with getting a new shifter in. Makes a world of difference. If mine wasn't a 24, I'd go with the shifter rotating knob from the Expedition mod. Might be quicker that way.
Have had the dreaded wrench on my dash on and off since early June. Took it to dealer, but it didn’t happen to be on at the time so they couldn’t do anything. 2 weeks later it came back, but had to wait 2 more weeks for appointment. It’s back there now, thankfully light happens to be on. In reading the thread it seems clear I’m headed for a new shifter, possibly after a lengthy backorder wait.

My question - would you roll the dice and drive it in the meantime, assuming I’m at least a couple weeks out? Dealer has no loaners and I’m not in a position to rent a vehicle for an indefinite amount of time.

I expect when I get the call today after diagnostics, they will be compelled to advise against driving it until resolved.

When it first started having issues the wrench light would come on and go away after it sat for a few hours, now it’s constantly on. Even so, I still drive it everyday. When I took it in the first dealership they said I could drive it but not to “hot rod it.”

I was told when they checked it and said they had to order the part that I could drive it for the week till the new shifter came in. I didn't have any issues in that week so as long as you drive normally and don't fold the shifter down, you may be alright. Good luck with it. I hope the new shifter gets here soon.

I posted the below to another area on this forum and realized it appeared to be in the wrong area. Reposting here to hopefully help someone out.

I have a 2024 PB Lariat. I have approximately 12k miles. I like it, but last night it left me stranded at a stop light. I had a "Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power" message pop-up on the way home, but it was running fine. Temps all within range and I didn't even have the a/c on despite it being well above 90 degrees. The truck started to shake a little at the red light so I put the shifter into neutral and that's when things went south. I tried several times to put it in park. I turned it off and back on several times but no luck. I tried disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and in the end it's stuck in neutral with the gear selector light blinking in neutral. Luckily, Ford roadside showed up within an hour. It's at the dealer

Ford Motor Company called today to follow up on my experience and to provide an update on my truck. That was not expected, but nice. They shared there is a recall that is in the process of being issued for the center console gear shifter. Apparently they are failing and mine happened to fail. The dealer diagnosed, ordered the part and it is scheduled to be installed later this week or early next week at the latest. I do have an ESP with 1 day rental. I was put in a rental first thing this morning.

In all, I'm pleased with the service. Not pleased with my truck breaking down, especially with what seamed like every competitor turning around to go by me just to give that look of "you should have bought one of this brand of truck instead". A lot or folks actually circled back to check on me, which was very nice. What I learned is if I ever have the "Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power" message pop-up again, I'm pulling over and getting the truck towed to the nearest dealer.

I have a 25' w/3800mi on the od and I've had the powertrain malfunction off and on for a few weeks, the whole ordeal has been a gradual progression from the shifter wouldn't fold down which was annoying but okay... then the shifter wouldn't deploy which stranded me in my own driveway but went away a day later (easy fix, stop folding the shifter right?) Dealership ordered a new gsm... then a week later I'm stopped by a neighbor on my way home, roll down the window for what I assumed would be a two minute conversation, put the truck in neutral for however long and then got tired of the truck cycling on and off so I turned it off, It didn't strike me as odd at the time when it didn't go into park automatically like it normally does...long story short, the truck wouldn't start when the conversation was finally over and I was stranded across this guys driveway for an hour before I happened upon the right combination of pushing buttons and swear words before the truck would start

That was last friday afternoon, Drove the truck directly to the dealership before they closed, new gsm installed this past monday but the technician can't get it programmed, still

The TSB stated "Built on or before 01-Nov-2024". However, Whoosh had it happen to his 2025 which doesn't speak well for the new GSM modules Ford will be install as replacements.

I've put 4,000+ miles on my 2024 Lariat PB and have had over 2 dozen drive train alerts come and go. The key to not pressing your luck is to not do anything to cause the GSM to back-drive on its own, e.g., open a door when not in Park or stow the shifter lever. I've made the mistake of opening my door too quickly before getting the shift lever in Park causing it to back-drive and fail (flashing indicator light). I recovered by letting the truck sit for 20-30 minutes until the flashing indicator goes out, then getting in with all the doors shut. Press Start and you will get an alert to be in Park to start the truck. Both times, I was then able to move the shifter into Park, start the truck, then drive away as normal. Still waiting for a replacement GSM. I can't be without my truck either.

Good stuff, thanks. Have been doing the same as I wait for my GSM. Looking forward to having a new one and being done with this.

What I am curious about, after monitoring this site since July 8 when my trucks GSM died, is how are people getting theirs repaired? and getting the part. My dealer is still showing back order?? Is it who is screaming the loudest? dealers anticipating and ordering extras? My intel is that the new GSM that passes the quality test hasn't been shipping yet??? so, either the recent repairs have a GSM that could still fail or FORD is not telling the whole story

dftower, this is a good question. My dealer's parts department said they are on back order with no delivery date. They also said the GSM part no. had a code attached to it indicating Ford was contracting with a second source. Whoosh reported his 2025 had a bad GSM which is past the Nov 2024 manufacturing cutoff of the TSB. I sure hope none of us get a new GSM that is prone to further failures.

maybe thats the issue with getting my truck programmed (aftermarket supplier) for a week, my service writer stated that they were contacting (what i assume is) technical support (assumptions kill🙄)

Whoosh, your comments make me hope this gets sorted out before my GSM replacement is available. I've got lots of traveling and off-roading starting in 60 days.

The worst part about the whole affair is that I can't lose my s**t with the dealership because they're in worse shape than I am..Imagine the technician with the $90k brick on his lift for a week, effectively affecting his income stream because of something as silly as programming!

This is a follow up to an earlier post I made on this thread about the gsm in my truck failing. Without repeating the entire previous post, I believe that because my truck had stranded me and I utilized Ford's road side service through the Ford Pass app, I was assigned a caseworker so to speak. She called me often to keep me apprised of things. I received a call from the caseworker the morning my truck was finished being repaired. I was asked to share my thoughts positive and negative. Positive - very appreciative of the communication from her and the dealership. Negative - 2 weeks without my truck cost me a lot time and money. The caseworker offered to pick up 1 month of my truck payment and did. Ford transferred the money to the dealership and the dealership cut me a check. Attached is a copy of the workorder and check. In all, I am very appreciative of how everything went for me and I hope others have the same or better experience.

Glad they made it good for you. I was fortunate that my truck was still driveable when my shifter started acting up. Took it to the dealer, they ordered a new GSM, called me when it was in and took 2 hrs to replace it and the battery. But it sounds like you had a good experience all around.
