I have a 22 powerboost and at low speeds the transition from electric to gas can be rough and very unpleasant. I have heard that resetting the transmission could help this. I think it is called resetting the TCM? Anyone here have any experience with that? I do not have forescan but I heard I can disconnect both batteries (main battery and keep alive battery under back seat) to do this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I also have a 22 Powerboost. I seem to have to reset mine twice a year. It doesn't seem to like the season changes. I'll have to do it next month when it really starts getting cold and again around April when it starts warming up.

I always use Forscan though.

My ‘25 has a rough transition particularly at first start. Maybe it should start in ICE first thing.

I wonder if my dealership would be willing to do it. They would probably charge me. I dont have a laptop or connector so forescan is not an option. I was laid off last month so buying those things is unpractical at the moment also. I am hoping the dual battery disconnect is my ticket. Hoping someone can opine before I screw something up by trying it.

Disconnecting both batteries overnight can possibly clear your adaptive tables.

If they do clear, you will know by the fact that the truck will not go into EV mode the first time you drive it after the tables clear.

Note in the procedure below that Ford describes this symptom.

Holy crikey. I'm not even sure where I could safely perform that procedure and you have to do it 7 times?

Glad I don't have the trans trouble.

That's what 99.9% of us do. I believe this procedure is for the service technician to complete the relearn process BEFORE returning the vehicle to the customer, and to confirm the vehicle no longer presents the issue the customer was complaining about.

There are plenty of other references in the service manual reminding the technician to inform the customer that the vehicle may shift oddly while the vehicle "relearns" and populates the empty adaptive tables. So the procedure I posted is not always called for.

I’m curious about these rough transitions from electric to ICE. My 22 Platinum transitions smoothly, IMO. Granted, I generally drive like a grandma and these transitions are happening in the 1000-1300 RPM range. However even when I drive aggressively 2000+ RPM, the transitions are still, IMO, relatively smooth. I can always feel the transition in the accelerator pedal. In the cab, I can feel a little rumble when driving normally, and a bigger rumble when driving aggressively.

How would y’all describe this ‘rough’ transition from electric to ICE?

For me, it feels like the ICE is SLAMMING on. The sensation feels like someone has a breaker bar hooked onto the crank and they are slamming it with a sledgehammer.

Mine is coming up on 4 years old, 40,000 miles, mostly used for truck duty only. Or at least multipassenger or towing duty only.

What you describe is NOT something I ever experience, so there must be something wrong indeed.

I admit that there are some quirky and less than graceful shifting at times, but the transition from ICE <> EV is almost transparent the vast majority of the time. Especially if you leave out the initial start from a dead stop transition.

I wouldn't say mine is smooth but it definitely doesn't go anywhere near "slamming".

Also... i may need to try that relearn procedure.... I'd be curious if it really helps.
