The C rate our batts take, well there aren't many high C rate capable LFP. The upper bounds of them is really like 5-6c. Continual 22c hits is just bonkers. We're talking ~ 2 and a half minute full charge and discharge cycles. That's just nuts.

22c rate on a battery is truly a bonkers number. LiPo batteries in drones average half of that. 6 minute flight time on a drone is ~10c.

I was looking at making my own LFP traction battery with a system to spoof the BECM and I couldn't get it small enough to be practical due to the C rate.

22C? Wowza! I wonder if that's included in my extended warranty.

The battery is already 8 years/100,000
And honestly, compared to the modern day cost for things like 10r80, or a Gen13 phaser job?
The Powerboost HVB is peanut$

Having just had the phasers on the '18 done, and the 10r80 rebuild scheduled, I can confirm. While most folks poo-poo extended warranties, I won't own anything that isn't a Toyota without one.

Just looked at my mileage log and did the calculation from when I accepted the vehicle in June of 2022 until my last fill a few days ago: 18.66 mpg over 63,500 miles. I have to say the fuel mileage has held up much better than my previous 2019 502A 3.5 EcoBoost and the truck itself has as well; the 2019 truck was consistently in the 15-16 mpg by the time I traded it in on this one at 50,000 miles, while this Powerboost is still in the 18- 19 mpg now that the weather is getting warmer.

My 22' has 52k miles. Only 2k is electric. I mostly drive on the hwy. I had 21mpg with the original tires. They lasted until 49k. I have a mountain property so I was glad to replace those hybrid smooth tires with some chunkier ones. Now the mpg is 19.5, but I can tow my 10k lbs trailer up on my gravel road. it will get better with miles, and the winter fuel will also eat into it (I lost 3-4mpg when the fuel changed).

I’m less than a week in on my 24 PB. Main takeaways I’ve found is the car loves just cruising around between 20-50mph and just keeping it going. It doesn’t do great in stop and go or great in highway. Not terrible in those by any means, but not great. Living in suburban area and taking back roads going 40-50, easily 27mpg.

Yep that’s the sweet spot- I purposely choose side roads instead of the interstate to get around locally. Staying sub 50 mph with EV coach on really shoots the mpg up.

Yeah I will definitely adjust how I drive because of this. Fortunately most of my driving tends to suit this ideal sweet spot of the PB. It’s such a nice cruiser. I’m coming from an explorer st so it’s nice still having the power but now with some added efficiency. Which is just odd to say about a half ton pickup.

I‘m getting similar mileage from my 2024 PB. While it’s comforting to know I can get decent economy by driving like my mother, every once in a while I gotta let the ponies out of the coral To run. On goes Sport mode and I have some fun. MPG be damned.

Ambient temp and my right foot affect MPG's drastically. I have averaged 18.7 MPG (highest tank was 22.7 mpg/lowest was 16.9) with my Powerboost since I bought it over a year ago. Tire choice was a detriment for a while, but I got those garbage Mickey Thompsons warrantied out.

If my wife drives my pickup......guaranteed that trip will be under 15 MPG. She has a heavy right foot and no matter how many times I've reminded her, she just won't change her driving style. I can drive her Aviator and get 24 mpg, and she will do the same trip and average 19 mpg. My son is 15 and just grins at me when he notices her bad habits, now that he spends a lot of time driving with me.

I always take MPG threads with a grain (or three) of salt. It has more to do with ambient conditions and driving habits than it does the equipment.

My trip did show 23.1 mpg when I pulled into my parking spot at work this morning. The Powerboost definitely excels at the around town 20-60 mph commute.

Had some time to kill, so I just re-read this whole thread.

There are some generalities to pull from it but they aren't absolutes.

Most of us agree that => EPA estimates are reality, at least in summer but some never get that.

Everybody knows that driving style, will affect mpg but some who claim sub par mpg, also claim to being conservative drivers.

I actually do drive conservatively most of the time but some of you who don't, can still do well (20+ @ 80 mph)

Popular mods (leveling, bigger tires etc.) hurt mpg, often 3-5mpg but sub par mpg are sometimes reported from stock trucks.

Wide consensus that wintertime temps whack PB's mpg. On that, I can say for sure, that it isn't wintertime fuel blend.

https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/pb-mpg-outside-temp-matters-more-than-fuel-grade.34648/

We all pretty well know that 45mph and less, brings out the best of PB and I used to think that gently rolling terrain was another important key but @UGADawg96 and @Samson16 results, defy the latter.

There is some consensus that a break in period of around 10K miles exists. My experience, was around 3mpg improvement and sometimes being able to top 30mpg on an individual trip. BUT, the truck in the first post was well past that so ...

I don't know why there is such a wide discrepancy. But there does seem to be and the range is significant.

Has anyone done any calculations as to whether premium fuel pays off? In my previous explorer ST, I was tuned and used premium gas all the time. I know with pretty much all Ford turbo engines, premium is recommended, but not required. I’m enjoying going back to regular gas for once but being that I only fill up once a month, I’m wondering if the benefits may be worth it for me.

I guess it ultimately depends on how much more it is. Premium gas here in Maryland is generally about $.70 more. I’m doubting it would pay off but also curious on the power benefits.

I don't have the numbers handy but when I tried it, it was negligible and certainly not worth the extra cost.

I didn't see benefit of ECO mode either. At least not enough to have to select it at every key cycle.
