I got my first oil change, I had 7,300+ miles on it and some more left according to the oil life gauge. I reset it and it’s saying I have l little over 4,000 miles and a year until the next oil change with 100% oil life remaining. Can anyone make aense of this for me? Nothing has changed on the truck.

To make sense of it throw it out the window. Use Full Synthetic oil and change every 5000 miles. Use your Trip 2 to track the 5000 mileage.

This is obviously the way to do it, just trying to figure out Ford’s math on this. Maybe it’s like the distance to empty gauge, which you can finesse in either direction with the way you drive, so maybe this will adjust too.

I think it takes into account the engine loading over time which is a quality variable created using several data points. I could be making this up but that's how I imagine it figures your oil life.

I figured it was something like that, but it’s a 40%+ decrease from the first interval, which seems almost impossible. I’ll ignore it at this point because it’s so off and go back to 5,000 mile intervals like I did on my last truck.

I do oil analysis. I also have an 8µ main filter setup along with a 1µ bypass filter installed. I have observed that the limiting constituent is Boron. It appears to deplete by about 14,000 miles and so I've set an oil change interval of around 12,000 miles. I take samples about every 4 to 5,000 miles.

Can't go wrong with full synthetic every 5k imo.
Makes it easy to know when you're due. 9500 miles? Just about due. 10,005 miles? Hello? Change your oil young man!

GMs is based on factory oil and pretty much every relevant data point.

Something happened to mine on this oil change. Around 2k miles it said it was toast. I reset it and have already gone another 2k and still says I've got 4k miles to go
?‍♂

I do synthetic blend every 5K. Would probably go longer on full synthetic but would do oil analysis to see how its looking

The algarythm Ford uses is truly mind boggling …….but oil is cheap, engines aren’t. I change at <5k

I trust the data. Engines are way more efficient now so I’ll change it when it (the computer) says to do it.

I do this strategy on my C7 and Sky Red Line. Everything runs fine.

If definitely takes your driving into account. I do short oil change intervals and at the last reset it showed 100 life with 4300kms. Now with 3000kms in I’m showing 73% life remaining and 11,300kms to go. It still gets changed out at 5,000kms or less. I figure if you look after the engine it’s always cheaper than putting a wrench to it once.

I would like to, just can’t figure out why my first interval was about 7,500 miles, and the second is about 4,200 miles. I haven’t towed, went off road, etc. just normal driving.

Did you rest your oil change minder? It is in your settings.

Yes, the dealership did, and then I redid it when I got home, and it says 100% oil life remaining. I’m hoping it’s just a computer issue because my truck seems to have a lot of them.
