So I placed an order for a 2024 KR Powerboost. While I wait many moons for this truck to appear in the late winter, I need to get my mod house in order. I have always been a guy who slaps oversized ATs on shortly after purchase (sometimes same day). I own land that isn't serious off-roading, but is more than I trust OEM Hankook AT2s with being able to handle. Currently running 285/65/20 KO2s on my 22 3.5L Eco. However, I dunno how aftermarket tire upgrades have affected hybrid performance with existing owners. I was just curious as to what PB owners who have gone with some nasty ATs have experienced and what recommendations you can make.

No aftermarket AT tire will have the Eco label on it, so some mpg penalty is to be expected even with the stock size. The larger/heavier tire will just make matters worst.

Add in the probably strike and production grinding to a halt...... any order delivery dates have to be considered speculative at this time.

Picked up my PB back in April 2022, with the Goodyear Wrangler 'AT' tires on it. Did around 26 mpg around town, 20 mpg on the highway. Switched to 20" wheels and K02s in the stock sizing, now I get about 24 mpg around town, 19.5 mpg on the highway. No other difference in acceleration or stopping in day to day driving.

Not a huge difference in my opinion. I much prefer the drive with the K02s than the Wranglers, so I'll gladly give up the little bit of fuel economy. I switched to the LT rated K02s because I hated the feel towing with the Wranglers. Still way better than my old 2011 Ecoboost, which averaged around 16 mpg.

You will lose some, but not as much as some doomsayers will lead you to believe. On the highway, I wouldn't see it being any different than your current truck, and around town will be better than an Ecoboost, for the most part. It comes down to how big and aggressive you go.

I have the 285/65r20 KO2 on my PB and I get about 20mpg, maybe a little less. I think sticking close to the stock size and an SL rated tire wont hurt you too badly.

I assume that production will be delayed. I have a solid truck now, so that's fine. I do believe that this rather bizarre twist of the free PB and overall reduction in cost at the upper trims is likely to incentivize people into placing orders in spite of the strike and waiting for the good deal and not looking another option like Toyota (horrors). I'm in no hurry and prepared for the wait.

I literally drove my truck from the dealership to discount tire and installed Nitto Recon Grappler 275/65/20 116T. The tires were ordered from Discount Tire the day my F150 Platinum Powerboost was shipped, so they were waiting for me the day I picked the truck up. I didnt even give the Dynapro’s a chance; however, I did give them a chance on my 2017 Platinum…18,000 miles of a chance. On the 2017, I went 1 size bigger in the Nitto Ridge Grappler. Keep in mind the 1 size bigger for the 2017 is stock size on 2022. I would have chosen the Ridge Grapplers again if they made the p-metric (4ply) tire in 275/65/20, but the don’t. Fortunately the Recon Grapplers do come in that size and 4 ply. I will take an ugly tire (Dynapro) over a harsh ride that kills mpg any day. Thank goodness The Recons gave me the option I needed. D rated tires hurt mpg and ride. E rated tires kill mpg and ride. In the pictures you can see I have never reset Trip 1. It rolls back over at 10,000 miles and that is the reason for the difference between the odometer and Trip 1 miles. For the life of the truck I’m at 21.6. Factor in 3.3% difference in tire rotation due to the larger tires and I’m at 22.3 mpg for the life of the truck. I would love to level but I have the CCD/scales option and really don’t want to deal with any issues that may arise from leveling. Overall, I’m very happy with the choice. Ride is quiet and soft. Tires look aggressive. They are wearing tremendously well for 18k miles.

BTW, I can easily achieve 25mpg on my 32 mile round trip commute to work. Towing and trips to the panhandle of Texas (lots of wind) is included in the lifetime mpg. Take those away and pretty confident I’m over 23mpg for the life.

Definitely am considering the Recon Grapplers at 275/65/20 (47.5 lbs). You can get the Ridge Grapplers in SL at 305/55/20 (52 lbs), which is about 33.4" so a little taller than the OEM, but not as tall as yours. Question is do I want height or width? Searching for other options...

Width hurts mpg more than height even if weight was the same.

I just picked up a used 21 power boost. Previous owner just put some 305/55 BFG Baja Champions on it. I have only had it a week, but seems like I’m hovering around 21 mpg overall.

I wish the 275/65s were XLs like the 275/60s are. They say they're SL, but they're XL.
275/65 is 2,756lbs @ 44psi
275/60 XL is 2,756lbs @ 50psi
