I plan to change my own oil every 5k miles using Costco full synthetic oil. What do folks recommend for the oil filter?

Motorcraft full synthetic 5w30 oil and filter every 5k. Boring I know. I get the tires rotated and any updates done while they’re at it.

First change at 1k. It is somewhat controversial but its not that much $ and it’s quality time you can spend admiring the bottom of your new baby.

Get the Kirkland 5gal jug from Costco, 1qt bottle of Supertech from Walmart, and the Ford filter from Amazon. Change at 5k.

Motorcraft filters have been tearing a lot and sloppy glue. They are n to as good as they used to be. For a 5,000 mile OCI, you can beat the quality and price of a CarQuest Premium oil filter. Check them out at BITOG.

Motorcraft filters from dealer only for me. I had read the adhesive on each end of the filter paper can loosen with use of synthetic oil. I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance so I cut my filter open at change intervals and so far I’ve not seen this issue at all. My intervals are in the 3k range or less though.

I use K&N or Amsoil filters. The actual filtration is probably no better vs anything else, BUT K&N has a 1" nut stamped into the housing and the Amsoil filter has non-skid surface. A smooth painted friction surface in a poorly accessible and often oily environment is a bad idea, particularly given the tendency of many dealers to apply He-Man torque to oil filters.

Is there a manufacturer not running a synthetic blend as their oil these days? They're starting to do some retarded things in chasing fractions of a percent for efficiency, like trading wear for lower viscosity.

Some of the UOA of extended life oils hasn't been good at all. A 99% efficient Fram cheapie and bargain discount synthetic (SP + GF6a rated) changed every 4k will provide better results than expensive long-life stuff. No matter how one may try to quantify it, a 3.5L V6 making 400hp/500tq is a high performance engine. Costco full syn carrying dexos 1 gen 3 is pretty good, just have to be careful buying bulk. I wouldn't buy oil only for it to sit around for a couple of years allowing the additive package to settle out.
