I know it will sound crazy, but I don't even take the time to put the truck on the lift to change the oil.

Admittedly, I might have to shuffle a car or 2 to gain access. Not worth pulling the covers or coldstarting the toys to do so.

Just hit 1,000 miles and it's time for my break-in oil change. What do I tell them when I call? Is this covered under the "dealer's maintenance warranty" bullshit they sell you? Is it even expensive enough to justify driving 40 miles when there is a Ford Quick Lane 10 miles away?

I changed mine at 1k, 2500 with Amsoil Signature Series oil and filter, since then at every 5k only with Amsoil Signature Series oil and filter. But then again, I never race my vehicles, I cruise with them all which is most likely the reason why they’ve never given me a problem in past 40 years since using Amsoil. I also run Lucus Fuel Treatment in every other tank.

Could I ask what that Amsoil is going for a quart approximately and price of the filter please?
I used to see a seller for it 15 years ago but not now in my area although I’m sure it’s available somewhere around here
Thanks

My kingdom for a lift. :)
I know it will sound crazy, but I don't even take the time to put the truck on the lift to change the oil.
I don't own a lift, but I do run the front up on ramps for my DIY oil changes and use a step-stool for easy access above.

I just fill the measured spec amount (6 qts for my 3.5EB) while on the ramps then check level off the ramps after a few minutes of running / drain-down (always spot-on).

At 72 I'm sure not as spry as I once was by a long shot, and I realize the physical aspect differs a lot for some folks, but fortunately I'm still able to enjoy the exercise and satisfaction of the task done with the care I can give it.

'YMMV' (no worries!), still managing to Have Fun, hope y'all are too! :)

Not sure what I'll do if / when I can't enjoy DIYing it .... probably look for a quick-change place that'll use my (motorcraft) filter and pre-measured oil of preference and let me watch 'em like a hawk. Yeah, that'll likely blow the economics but I'm really touchy about oil changes (read too many horror stories, rare though they may be) so will pay for the privilege. The local place where I get my annual State mandated inspection is a candidate.

I’m 69 and no one has ever changed oil in mine or my sons vehicles
I always rotate the tires at the same 5K
On my 22 F150 I think it’s easy to just slide under on a piece of cardboard they’re so high
I realize also it wouldn’t be easy for everyone
I’d hate to trust someone to change it for me but I know it’s coming at some point

I have a local shop that I trust change my oil and rotate tires. The owners are great people that are into drag racing and usually have a customers muscle car in for tune-ups or performance add-ons. I do trust these guys with my ride.

I did 2500 easy miles and had it changed at a local garage.
And then again at 5000.
Pretty religious about changing right on the 5k marks now.
Just had to remove a 400 mile rebuilt motor form my ElCamino.
Lot of stuff in that pan, but pretty confident that very little of this will go thru the filter. I cut the filter open and it seemed to be catching most of the crap.
I’ve done 1000 miles on rebuilds, and then at the 5k marks from then on out and it has served me well.
One of the very old never rebuilt Chev 307 I recently sold had 3500 on the oil and it was still a golden color.

Cost very little (~$35) and only takes a few minutes. (I have it down now that I've done it 6 times and have the fumoto. Even the handsfree funnel threads to the Ford valve cover cap port)

Is this the oil and filter you recommend or there is a better one out there? How often do you change your engine oil?

It IS the oil/filter that I have been using for this truck to date.

It is FAR from the ONLY great oil and filter for a vehicle. But it's at or very near the top of the list of oils that are tested for "anti-wear".

I say that because I have gone down the rabbit hole on oil a few times over my long years and one of my all-time favorite rabbit holes is https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/

He's ornery as they come, and I enjoyed his whole ignore marketing approach.

The best news is that I believe you could pick any of the oils near the top of his best scores list and know that you are pouring fantastic oil into your engine. We are so fortunate to have these modern anti-wear oils for our amazing machines.

Dang, I tried to dance around that part of your question. Lol

Look, I know it's almost impossible to defend my oil change interval based on the fact that the oil I drain out of my toys and dailies is STILL doing the job it's in the engine to do. I admit, it is. It better be!
But, it's NOT as perfect as it was the day I first poured it in. ?

Truth is, I have a fresh oil issue. I love cracking the top and pouring. I love having to look really close to even SEE the translucent oil on the dipstick.
I'm addicted to that feeling I get on the first drive after an oil change.

So. ~3000
Sometimes a bit over. Maybe even 4000 if I haven't yet gotten around to it.
It's a zero anxiety range, right? ?

I will stick with 5000(8000KM) as my truck seldom gets overworked but I see your point. I just started reading the 540 Rat blog and I think everyone should read it and thank you for sharing! By the way, I just ordered the funnel you are using!

The modem day attention span reduces the audience for things that require more than a few seconds to digest. So that blog, especially the lack of formatting, is a tall order for many. But it is interesting and I took the bait a few years ago. It was kinda self-fullfilling though since I was already using the highest score oil on his list, at the time. (except in 0w-40 flavor)
When the QSFS came along and shocked him, I decided to see what it was like to buy oil at Walmart. ??

At these prices it hardly stings at all to fill the 55gallon barrel in the barn with lightly used oil. (I recycle with a local company who gladly comes sucks the barrel dry)
