So the button on my power tailgate will lower it. But when I push once to raise it , I hear mechanics in the tailgate but it doesn't move. One push ? I've tried 2 pushes and some other combos. Am I doing it wrong?

Can you power-close your tailgate using a double-tap on the in-cab button or key-fob?

I might be mistaken but I believe that on the XLT 303A, even with the optional Bed Utility Package, you get tailgate power release (open / down) but not power close / raise.

The full-power (open and close) tailgate is available on Lariat and higher trims.

This based on info in the 2024 Order Guide.

The sounds heard when pushing the button when open may be the mechanism confirming the tailgate is already open.

No auto close on XLT, only auto release. You're just releasing it again but it's open.

Your 24 PB XLT 303A doesn’t have that feature

So is there a level at which it *does* lift?

I kind of want it, not for any practicality, but because, well. SHINY!!!

But if it doesn't climb back up, it's kind of like the dog that dashes to the food bowl for "eat!", but won't sit or heel . . .

so the switch in the cab or the key fob releases the locks or the latches what I’ve only call it for the tailgate. Gravity lowers the tailgate, it does have too small shock absorber too slow the fall. so in reality, it’s not even a power assist, considering the opening

If you have the fully powered tailgate, it only takes ~1-2" to go back up on its own for me.

does that mean that if you lift it that far, it goes the rest of the way?

And if so, is that the sensors locking out, or the motor not quite being strong enough?

several things I have noticed with my power tailgate. for starters I find that if the gate has been down for a long time. not sure exact times, but over half an hour. and the truck hasnt been started or “woken up”, if I push the tailgate button to go it sometimes its a no response. seems like I have to wake up the truck by starting it. cant recall exactly. of course at that point you can just lift the gate by hand an close it.

Also. after my last OTA update my power tailgate was turned off in settings. not sure why. and since I am the only driver, I know I didnt turn it off.

as for if it is alive, if you do lift the gate a few inches and balk, it will take over the closing. even on opening, if you interfere it will try to return to up. or closed. the motor will fight you if you change your mind halfway.

sometimes it seems I have to double click more than once to get the gate to do anything, open or close, but it usually seems to be after a period of vehicle off for more than 30 mins or so.

sometimes I double click and it just beeps, as if to say I hear you, but I am not gonna move.
just odd quirks. never been stuck with it open or closed to where I cant just close it, or open it like an old fashioned manual tailgate.

its kind of fun, I bought off the lot, so it wasnt an option I went looking for. all my other trucks were manual gates. I didnt think I would like the step and pole, but I honestly use that all the time now and would hate to give that up for the new multi function tailgate.

Yes, if I lift it just shortly and hold, the motor kicks in and takes it the rest of the way. Occasionally though, it doesn't matter how far I lift it or how long I hold it, the motor doesn't want to go and I need to manually close it

Sounds like it's a sensor/safety interlock, then.

thanks
