I saw that. I’m questioning if I need the black package as sport gets rid of most of chrome that I don’t like as much. My 11 year old son likes the BAP though ?
I personally don't like the chrome in the taillights and headlights, but I live with them. I didn't order, but found my sport on a lot for a good price so went with it.

I just ordered mine with Sport appearance and I dealer said their order system requires the black wheels as separate charge. So it seems like the package is really $2K. But in another thread. IF you have the bigger engine that you need for BAP and other requirements it looks like you can get BAP cheaper then without BAP. I think there might be some oddness in the ordering system they have not worked out. But not matter how this works out they certainly play some good mind games in the packaging. . I started with a $55K XLT vs 61K larait and ended up with $68K lariat. :)

Sorry to take this back to the original question ;)...

I have a 502A, 2022 without tailgate step or bed utility package. The tailgate is assisted as in "it is easy to lift and close and opens softly when opened with the fob or the button on the gate". It doesn't freefall open and you aren't lifting the entire weight when closing...but it can't be closed remotely just using the fob...it isn't "power close"...doesn't raise itself.

An actual full power close tailgate is a separate option...maybe part of the bed utility package but I really haven't looked at either the 2022 or 2023 order guide.

Thanks Zengineer. This is what I was wondering... Old school heave the tailgate up or is it balanced / easy to to close. Sounds like the latter.

I think the ease of lifting is just because it's an aluminum tailgate and light for its size. There is no power assist without the Bed Utility package.

Even the factory damper that allows for the soft-open is in its collapsed state with the tailgate down, so it's not pushing on the tailgate to open when it's lowered. Otherwise when off the truck it would be trying to extend itself. The factory damper works differently than the aftermarket ad-ons.
