what I truly don't get is why people have to wait in line at their charging stations. It should be drop it off at entrance, the lot takes over, and the Tesla comes to pick you up at the picnic table, restaurant, or whatever when it's done.

They're working on wireless chargers that will make it possible. The vehicles will already come and pick you up in the parking lot if you've paid to use that feature. (part of the FSD stack) There won't be any self-charging w/ vehicles already sold, but all of the autonomous features are simply software, no other hardware needed.

95%+ of EV owners charge at home. Kinda why fast charging infrastructure is a redheaded stepchild of sorts. Imagine only using a gas station when you're driving somewhere that requires more gas than the full tank you already got from home. The equipment and grid buildout is such that it doesn't make sense to do without taxpayer $.

I doubt wireless charging will catch on for travel charging stations, given the extra losses (and heat) involved.

the hardware is installed in all of them; it just seems to me to make more sense to use it to get more cars through the same number of stalls in less time!

I love the Babylon Bee. Unlike the Onion, they actually run with the gag, instead of it being a one-liner with an extra paragraph or three. And while they definitely have their own religious perspective, they're not afraid to poke fun at themselves just as quickly as others.

imo Lightning is good for leasing, unless you can stomach the poor resale value of an EV (trucks included).
