I have NAV but never use it. I like my Android MAPS setup more. I can be in the house, search for a route and as soon as I get in my truck it syncs and automatically loads the route. I mean...come on. Why should I pay for NAV?

One reason to pay the Nav fee is when you don't want to use Android Auto or CarPlay?

Neither will allow Sync4 to monitor my corporate email while traveling.

The monthly co$t for Ford's Nav connected features is less than ONE cup of a lot of folks daily addiction.
I just don't feeeeel the pain.

Everyone commenting on how they will just use AA or CP, just wait until the "use" of that is subscription based. Not saying its coming, and hopefully not, but nothing would surprise me anymore.

But data related subscriptions?
Nobody should be insulted.
Exactly. API calls to Google aren't free, and the price keeps going up. At my work we had to move away from Google as a map data provider when the fees went up about 10X a few years back. We can move to one of the smaller providers, but I doubt Ford can.

And Google Maps/Waze isn't free; you pay with your data.

Personally, I like to Ford Nav over Gmaps when navgating. I think the display is better, and the traffic bar on the side is great. If you could pre-plan a route using the FordPass app, or at least sync favorite locations, then I would use it a lot more.

I bet there are a lot of people that use the built in service over AA or Carplay, as there are simply still millions of people that don't leverage every aspect of their phones.

Is there a way to remove the NAV icon on the sync screen and replace it with another favorite? Perhaps through forscan?
I imagine there is a way to removbe the icon, because my Lariat doesn't have Nav or the icon, was ordered without it per the build sheet.

I'm in this group, with no regrets.

My long-grandfathered old and very inexpensive AT&T (iPhone 12 mini) plan is limited to 4GB data (unlimited text) which suits me fine. I don't stream music, only view a bit of YouTube or similar, check weather and news, and use google maps on a limited basis. Never even tried CarPlay, never spoken with a thing called Siri. I don't consciously limit or even think about my use, just use the phone as I want and never busted the 4GB limit. Yep, a real luddite compared to many I'm sure ?, living a very contented simple life in retirement (y).

Methinks that if i used a phone-based nav app as much as I use the Ford Nav I'd likely bust that 4GB limit?

The Ford Nav, which I use a lot, works for my needs and appears to be my most cost-effective solution when the 3-year subscription expires. YMMV, no worries! :)

Myself, my wife, siblings, and parents are all on Mint Mobile's 5GB/mo plan and have been for four plus years. In fact, they keep raising it. It started at 3GB, went to 4GB, and is now 5GB. We all use YouTube, AA, Car Play, stream music, etc and don't go over the plan. You'd be fine using car play with your iPhone on your 4GB plan.

Please the less said about these features the better about not giving FORD other ideas on subscription services :frown:
LOL TRUE! Just like ford to ignore everything else we bitch about, but latch on to that. Although, I heard about it somewhere, which means the idea is already a thing in their devious little brains at ford.

I used to vehemently be like this. A phone is a phone and I don't want more. My Wife, even more so. Insisted on a landline and wouldn't have a cell.

Circumstances changed. I was out of town when an emergency happened and the home phone went out for an extended period. She went out and got one.

Then circumstances changed again and I needed a different phone and carrier. The best deal near us, was a senior's, 2 line unlimited plan.

Its been a process but with a decent, modern smartphone, coupled with unlimited everything, including hotspotting, we find ourselves using them a fair amount and quite handy when away from home.

And its way more than just a phone for me now. I use the camera on every project. Need to make sure you get the wiring right? Take a pic first. Need a magnifier? Take a pic and blow it up.

Paper calendar, or various shopping, or to do lists that I'd sweat through in my pocket? Why?

I'm still in the baby stages of app use but the timer, or reminder functions are used all the time. The Victron app is essential. Ford Pass, used to be handy. The WeighSafe app, the LevelMate app etc. etc.

I embraced the suck and found it to be OK.

Okay, I cannot hold back from chiming in on this post either.

I do like the ford nav and have been using it a lot lately; however, when it comes time to pay for it I'm out. I find connecting my phone via android auto and using Google maps is the better option when it comes to getting me to my destination by way of the most direct route.

Someone mentioned earlier about a subscription to Sirius. I liked it when it was free, but I found LiveX to be more my speed (100% commercial free), unlimited skips and creating favorite lists for just $3.99/month. My wife and I have the exact same phone, so we can share one account and play different stations at the same time. We're also able to take the music anywhere (in car, house, beach, backyard, etc).

I'm not one of those penny wise/pound foolish types, but subscriptions are literally destroying budgets. Same goes for the cost of new vehicles. While I absolutey love my f-150, i am going to sell it in the next few months. Its not worth the headach anymore of parking way out to avoid getting dinged in a parking lot or not fitting into most parking spots. I'm going to downsize by ordering a maverick xl and also order an f-550 xl dump to use for my other line of work. Sad part is, the those 2 vehicles will are only a slightly more than my f-150 Lariat and I won't care if someone hits the maverick or the f-550 dump.

Anywho, power to the NAV non subscribers!

Oh yes, I appreciate use all of those functions / apps (except WeighSafe) for sure! Add in AllStays campground-finding apps and a few more relating to RV use and travel; I also love having many vehicle and equipment Owner's Manuals and reference docs along with Adobe Reader on my phone for ready-reference. I didn't mention those things because they have essentially no bearing on data use, so don't relate to use of my phone (and associated plan data limits) as a primary source for navigation aid when driving.

Please understand, I'm far from 'vehemently' using my phone as 'only a phone' (so maybe I'm not really a mobile-phone luddite after all!). And yeah, my 'use-it-as-I-want' habits leave plenty of room for emergency situations.

I would bet the number of AA & CP are much larger than you think. Every manufacture now has them in their lineup. Even my motorcycle has it.

Atleast with AA and google maps, as long as you don't close out the route, your GPs will continue to navigate you regardless of cell service. I do have a Garmin Zumo though for my ADV bike that i could easily port over into the truck.
You can also download Google maps for offline navigation. It won't show you traffic, but your GPS will still work.

My first choice is Waze, Google Maps is next, and if I need another electronic back up, I'll buy a nice Garmin with free lifetime updates before I pay for Ford Built-In NAV subscription.

Also, as a real back up, I do have a bunch of recent AAA maps in my back door pocket, covering the entire eastern half of the country. Nothing beats that ;)

Yep, I was really considering a Honda Africa Twin when bike shopping last winter and the available CarPlay did look appealing.
