You can also download Google maps for offline navigation. It won't show you traffic, but your GPS will still work.
Yup, we used this for our recent trip to Florida. Works like a charm, though the GPS on my Pixel 7 usually went a little funky before it realized what direction I was pointing in!

I use the Sync nav screen when I want to look at a map of where I am, mostly for city street areas. The map is so much better than Apple or Google maps. But for navigation, I generally use Apple maps. The main thing that drives me crazy on these apps is that unless I'm missing something, they are stupid when you stop to get gas or food and keep trying to tell you to turn around, go back etc. They have so many features, but nothing simple like asking if you want to pause navigation because they can tell you've stopped or gone off route. I always just end navigation when making a stop and then starting it back up again.

there has been a lot of talk from a lot of manufactures about charging for carplay or android auto .... so it looks like they are going to get a pound of flesh from us one way or another

Apple Maps will ask if you want to pause a trip. Not sure about the native Ford nav app.

Just got an email from Ford saying my navigation has expired ? Couldn’t help but lol @ that.
they want me to pay to use that garbage when I can just plug my phone in and have multiple options for nav.

these auto companies are trying to be tech companies way and don’t come close to the same product
I happen to like the navigation. Much better than phone apps, and i dont always have my phone with me. Plus i dont have to worry about no cell coverage. Yes this is an issue.

Yep, I was really considering a Honda Africa Twin when bike shopping last winter and the available CarPlay did look appealing.
Garmin Zumo, fairly affordable, easy to use and read even with the sun and wont destroy your phone from vibrations. My friend has an AT but prefers the GPS unit.

The one feature i do like from Fords nav is the weather and radar while also showing weather at the destination. For that feature alone I may give in and pay.

The sync lady will come on and say "guidance will resume now" when you start truck at a gas station or something. I think that is only with voice prompts on though. I turn that off the arrows are enough.

After using the nav with my 2022 truck I am going to be using the Garmin RV GPS instead as it has better routing and a more comprehensive and more accurate database than that of the Ford.

Does Garmin do OTA updates or updating a SIM card via computer?

I actually might have to subscribe so I can disable trailer routing.

Every time I tow, I get the annoying height restriction chime.

The only way to disable it is through Sync Nav. And I can't access the towing menu without a subscription. So, I have to pay Ford $20 per month to NOT use a feature. :cautious:

How annoying is that??
Can't you just use FORScan to disable that chime so you don't have to waste your money??
