Guys. Never do I do this on a hill. The car is doing 0 MPH when I turn it off so zero rocking. Call it what you want but I like it.
Sure, if you are somewhere absolutely flat then I guess you are okay but I'd like to do it the traditional way.
As I understand , the park pawl is quite robust. However a problem can arise when too much pressure in the form of the vehicles weight prevents the park pawl from disengaging. That is why it would be a good idea to engage the e-brake before shifting to park. Not that I do it, but it's a good idea.
I fail to see how placing in neutral first will prevent the pawl from locking inside the input shaft gear.

How is keeping your foot on the brake, placing in park and applying ebrake is any different than keeping your foot on the brake, placing in neutral then applying ebrake and finally placing in park?

I read about this feature recently and had to try it myself just to see it work. Pretty cool! I too would not rely on using it regularly.

If on an incline/decline I always set the e-brake. But I like to allow the tranny pawl to fully engage by gently easing off the brake after placing in park and before engaging e-brake. My thought is I want it to be FULLY locked in position in case the brake releases for any reason, causing the truck to roll and have a potentionally damage inducing engagement.

I come to full stop. Throw it in neutral, throw on parking brake then throw it in park. The weight of the vehicle is then sitting on the axle /parking brake not the trans parking pawl.
This has always been my practice. However, I always make a point to take my foot off the brake once the parking brake is set. This allows the truck roll back slightly while still in neutral. Then, I shift from neutral to park. It completely eliminates stress on the transmission. A huge help on the boat ramp for sure.

Nope.....but I have been guilty of turning off the motor on vehicles that don't put themselves in park.

It's not, you just have to remember to keep your foot on the brake while you engage the e-brake. People tend to remember to do it as an afterthought .

Yep 100%! thanks for adding that. I get pissed at the wife when she doesn’t allow it to roll back on the parking brake lol

I use it if the auto start/stop is activated when I park. This way the engine will stay off rather than start when I shift to park and shut it off again.

I park place in park engage the e brake turn off the vehicle with the key and remove my foot from the brake. This procedure saves wear on your transmission

This is a safety feature to cancel out human error, not a convenience feature. This is a habit I'd never get into because once it's burned into my muscle memory good chance I'll do it while driving a vehicle that does not have the feature.

That or the actuator fails at some point. Then I'm standing there one day like a dope with the truck having rolled into something or someone, having to explain to some cop looking at me like i'm retarded that it was supposed to go into P all by itself when I turned it off and got out but something went wrong.
