I had the lane centering and on my first long trip to Texas I was some what annoyed at it always telling me to keep my hands on the steering wheel. The interstate was long and straight and it did not register that I was holding the wheel. I took my truck in for the BlueCruse update which failed and I lost the lane centering. I am now on a 6k mile trip and miss the lane centering. That little bit of help was nice on a long drive.

Personally, I'm torn as to whether or not I'd pay for this option now that I've had it. It came with my truck as part of the 502A package. I've had a couple cases now cruising down a 2 lane road where a car way out in front of me is making a right turn and would be long gone when I get to where they turned, but the truck thinks I'm going to hit them and slams the brakes on. Normal driving I wouldn't even lift off the gas. Thought for sure I was going to get rear ended the first time it happened. I've learned to remember to hit cancel on the cruise control in that situation now.

The adaptive cruise is nice in some situations, but on a big highway I find I have to change lanes much earlier now or it will slow down the truck, even on the shortest distance setting. I rarely use the lane centering, as I find it truly does center you in the lane, where I prefer to be a bit to the right. Might be nice on a long trip I guess.

I dont get why people want this. If you dont want to drive, call uber or take the buss.

You do realize there will be a program in there somewhere that is designed to kill you? Of all the scenarios programmed, no way 100% of the outcomes benefit the passenger. Yes, i did not say driver.
I’m with you. I personally do not like the idea of fully autonomous driving. Not my thing.

I guess i am in the minority. I think it is a waste of money. I ordered my RCSB in XL mainly becuase co-pilot was forced in the XLT trim.

Lane centering? If you cant keep vehicle in the center of the lane, put the cell phone down and pay attention. If you still have issues take the buss.

Adaptive cruise? Again, pay attention. Never needed this in my 35 yrs of driving.
Dont kid yourself. You ordered an XL bacuse of cost!!

No one Chooses an XL if price isnt an option.

Adaptive cruise is amazing in stop and go traffic!!

Youve prolly never got to enjoy the benefits because youre an XL buyer

I personally love it - and no, I'm not looking for any "self-driving" solutions. I drive PA > FL several times a year, and I consider having the ACC and lane centering as just an additional safety measure during those overnight runs. My first experience with ACC in general was with my wife's Honda Pilot, and I can confidently say Ford's implementation is 100x smoother!

I also find it very useful in stop-and-go city driving as well as the insane rush hour highway traffic here in Philly. I don't use it as a substitute for actual driving, but when spending an hour in bumper-to-bumper mayhem that toggles between 5 and 80mph, it just makes the trip a bit more tolerable. Based on my 15 months with Ford's co-pilot:

Pros:
- very smooth acceleration & deceleration (compared to the Honda, which feels like it's gonna lock the brakes when someone jumps in your follow space).
- Lane centering is not too aggressive and is adjustable.
- Speed setting is dynamic (Xmph over / under limit) and sign recognition works well.
- Start/stop actually works well in traffic.
- Acceleration can be easily overridden with gas pedal without having to cancel / re-engage the ACC.

Cons:
- Even the minimal follow setting tends to be a bit conservative. Here in the northeast, leaving two car lengths in front of you only last for 10 seconds before you actually have two cars in that space lol!
- Speed posting recognition may work TOO well - it often picks up exit ramp speed limits or inactive school zones and will drop your speed accordingly.
- The lane centering, while gentle, seems to be constant. Even when perfectly centered, I feel like the truck still pulls and tugs (perhaps just for confirmation that you're actually holding the wheel). In my case, I also feel like it favors the passenger side a bit.
- While it does a good job of recognizing actual road markings (vs. tar lines or temporary traffic patterns), I absolutely hate that it gives an audible warning any time it loses its reference!!! During those PA>FL runs, it constantly wakes my wife in the middle of the night any time I hit a stretch of road without an outside lane marking... who in turn jumps up in a panic as though I'm driving off a cliff. ?‍♂
- The acceleration from a full stop is painfully slow / delayed, at least for Northeast driving. Fortunately, you can override this by using the gas pedal, and the ACC resumes normally when you remove your foot from the gas.

just my $.02

I could have orded a Limited or Tremor and payed cash.

If i wanted a luxury vehicle, i would buy one. Not a pickup.

My wife drives the "luxury" vehicle that we paid cash for. There is no need for 2 luxury cars.

I actually use my trucks for truck stuff and have zero want or need for crap i will never use. I am not spending for unused crap. Maybe thats why i can buy with cash?

You should not aussume to know anyone. Makes you look like a fool.

Makes sense.

you have one nice thing.

Why get two LOL

I have a luxury vehicle as well, which makes it even more cringe to think about getting into an XL

I didnt realize leather and heated steering wheel made the high end trucks incapable of doing " "Real Truck Shit"

the 22 502a has it, the 19 502a of course did not- not even adaptive cruise... adaptive is really nice on a long trip- son has a 19 almost identical to my 19, except he has every option, where mine didnt have trailer tech/adaptive- on a long trip it was really nice having his truck...i like to drive no doubt, but the extra eyes on the road rattled the steering wheel more times to lane drift than not.
in the 22(just over a week old) tried the lane holding stuff, halfway thru its first 600 mile road trip, turned off the centering and went back to alert only- adaptive still has centering enabled, but i prefer not to use... just normal drive with alert it will keep extra eyes on the road, i think this could be a potential lifesaver as everyone eventually will have a moment of inattention that this little rumble strip like alert might be quick enough to make a difference.
if ever going out west again(usually a 4000-6000 mile round trip for us) i'll probably adapt to the adaptive/centering...adaptive cruise alone is really great- just to me, the centering is always gently fighting a little as I tend to drive a couple inches towards passenger side, and its like a slight low tire pull trying to pull to exact center...wish it had a auto learn, or manual adjustment of say +/- 2"... it is really that good at keeping the truck on track, it follows even fairly sharp s-curves well...just for me i never even noticed before I tend to drive straight slightly off center of the lane...either the truck or i need to relearn this LOL.
Anyways, i'd say get it.it came with the 502a, so was a no-brainer, but after using the thing on the sons 19, on our 22, i miss it now driving my old 19... its not that expensive, it might keep you or someone else driving out of a fenderbender, and surely will add residual value when time comes to trade in...just a opinion :)

Your opinion on what is luxury differs.

I would not order leather seats if Ford payed me for the option.

Leather most definetly is a PITA and deters hard use. Too cold in winter. Too hot is summer. Always sticky. Always rips/wears easy.

Ended up with seat covers on every vehicle i had with leather, so why pay for it?

PITA does not equal luxury IMO.

I orderd the exact truck i wanted. With everything i wanted and nothing i do not want or need.

Why does that bother you or make you look down on it?

I find that if you just hang one hand on the wheel it will add a little rotational weight to the wheel. This keeps the hands on wheel warning from popping up on the long straights.

The lane centering and adaptive cruise are a valuable addition to the F-150 but only if you spend a lot of time on long empty highways and are willing to learn the quirks of the system.

It’s shortcomings are mainly the fault of other road users. I have a huge problem when using the cruise control; a car will pass me going 1-2mph faster, pull in front and then suddenly start going 5mph slower on an absolutely empty road.

I've seen videos of people wrapping soft ankle weights on the bottom half of the steering wheel. Apparently, it adds just enough resistance to convince the truck that a human is steering.

My truck has this package, I don't find it useful but I don't do big freeway or commute miles daily.
The cruise control was amusing until I realized how poorly it percieves the future. E.g. descending a long grade with clear view of slower traffic bunching up ahead, under manual control I'm smoothly decelerating to maintain spacing, under computer control it makes the decision to decelerate way too late resulting in a jerky ride and less safety margin, by a country mile. I like things smooth, so manual control it is.
As for the fragile egos that denigrate XL buyers, people who use double exclamation points or "prolly" project an aura that steers many of us away from Limited or Platinum trims, lest we be confused for being guilty of that sort of vapid snobbery.
Reminds me of an uncle that's sitting on absurd amounts of San Francisco commercial real estate, who until last year was driving his 80s Cadillac with the rusty roof patched with asphalt composition roofing shingles (to the chagrin of his family). He's an interesting guy, and would have some less than diplomatic things to say about people who insult others over the trim level of their F150.
Anyways clowns like that guy above are why I don't post here, but it's a nice reminder of why I bought a lowly XLT without the ass-jewelry glued to the tailgate. No offense to the guys in Limiteds who measure their stature in other ways, like height. ?
Good luck, nerds.
