I just changed the oil for the first time way early, but I like keeping it around 1500 miles for the first change. Man that was a pain in the ass after having super easy changes in my 04 for so long. I really need a step stool to reach the oil fill cap. The oil filter is dumb as fuck. I'm not sure why they don't still use the self contained 500s or 820s. The O rings were a pain to get on and seemed to leave little flakes of the red stuff everywhere. I did like the plastic drain plug, but think the old screw on types feel safer. Getting the fiber airflow cover off and on was so stupid with those tabs. Mazda at least has a single screw that allows a section to pivot away to expose both the filter and plug.

Ok - I have and use these. Here is the page for 2022 2.7 F150
https://www.fumotousa.com/cars-pickups-ford-2022-f-150-2-7l-v6

Remove factory plug - install this, get the clear hose put into drain pan, and then remove a 'locker clip' I got this as paranoid, then move small handle back then then pivot and the drain valve opens - again at this point you already have clear hose on the nipple in the drain pan, and open it up..

Then: Factory crappy firm cloth cover thing, complete with weak "L-Brackets" and noisy clip on snap nuts all over (which vibrate and make noise)
Replace with this: https://talonsgarage.com/products/f...erter-shield-2009-2023?variant=45201916461364

I got the one with no reinforment, and the cat guards! No takey my cats!
Oh and the above real skid plate bolts to frame!, No snap nuts, No L Brackets.
Four allen storx screws remove a 4x6 plate to gain access to the Fumoto usa drain valve. (and you wont ever cross thread the factory plug either)

I know I know. So like $35 + $354!!
Done, not sure about the oil filter, my 3.5 is crazy easy, and the oil drips from cutout.

I love the 2 items above and have them installed on mine.

Fumoto doesn't work with plastic oil pans.

Yeah but honestly, even if they did, it wouldn't make a difference. The yellow plastic plug is so easy to remove. The problem is getting to the plug with those 4 long bolts holding up the fiber board. That and the oil filter type and fill placement is just stupid. Why are these basically in the middle of the bay? They really should have a tube going from the engine out to the drivers side with a valve on the end to get past the skid plates and fiber board.

Which oil and filter did you use?

Another idea: I recently purchased a fluid extractor in order to drain the gear lube from my front axle. Works just fine. Have now used it on the rear axle... no sweat. My thought is to use it on the engine next change, having to take down that underbody shield is a PITA all by itself. In any event the location of the filter remains a PITA no matter what you do...

42,000 ford points are given with each new Ford truck.
Ford doesn't give a hoot if they get used or not and will change the oil at any mileage when asked to do so.

I feel like that method might not work that great for the engine in terms of ensuring everything is flushed out.

The red flakes were on both the new filter o rings and old factory one.

I really don't trust anyone with my oil changes. Too many bad experiences where filters weren't changed and the fiber boards were ripped off. I SUPER don't trust anyone to change out the pain in the ass little O rings.

Nor do I!
My observation on the axles says it'll get most out. A good idea to run the engine and get the oil fully circulated for two reasons: One gets all of that stuff up and into suspension; Two reduces the opportunity for un-necessary fuel dilution if you're sending off oil samples for analysis...

Easy exact fit 6 bolts install on my ‘22, 2.7, 4wd,xlt,SC. Parts people will tell you it won’t fit cause it’s listed for Raptor. Drop front 4 bolts, loosen back 2, cover pivots down. Easy.

I have my oil changed at an independent garage and can watch the work being done. I use their oil and bring my own Fram filter. They recycle the oil and that is worth the minor expense. I could do it myself and save $40 every 5,000 miles (or less than a penny per mile) but that is the least expensive aspect of owning a truck.

UPR makes a drain plug for the 2.7EB plastic oil pan. I see they have a couple different options since I bought this one last year, it works well for me.
UPR Ford Easy Oil Drain Valve for Mustang F150 Raptor Edge Explorer (3025-02) (uprproducts.com)

I added RCI skid plates which complicated oil changes a bit for me. Another reason why I bought the UPR plug.

As to the fiber splash guard, which is what it is, nothing else, most folks just remove them. They are very likely going get ripped or damaged in short order anyway.

The $100 option that gpad53 listed is a good low cost idea. It's not just a splash guard.

As to the oil filter location, agreed it is dumb as fuck. But at least it is right side up and empty when you remove it! I will never understand why the filter is on sideways on some vehicles. When you remove the filter, the oil dumps all over the cross member or other parts that you have to TRY to clean up. That is dumb as fuck.

12 years of oil changes on the 2011 3.5. I perfected the sideways oil filter routine. :)

I'm actually happy they put the filter in a better spot on the 2.7. Some engineer must have listened to all the mechanics doing 3.5 oil changes. Then they made it extra complicated with o-rings of fun.

Interesting drain plug but what keeps wheel valve from spinning and all your oil draining out?

The "ronin" plug costs much more and has an annoying extra piece but it won't drain without the piece attached.

The friction on the threads I suppose. Would have to ask an enjinear. It's not that easy to spin, the video looked a little misleading to me. I checked mine after a few hundred miles after initial install, still all the way tight. The same at two oil changes and 6500 miles since then. I mean it does require some finger and thumb strength to get it to loosen up.
