I have a loaner Bronco right now while my truck is in the shop getting the IWE replaced. The dial shifter is far superior than the crap shifter in the F150.

A dial would make much more sense than a gimmicky folding shifter for the work surface. Ford I think expected push back from "truck guys" over a dial so we end up with an over engineered motorized shift lever. Mine doesn't feel as bad as many here complain on it. The lowering and raising trick tightened it up when it felt loose.

Bring back the Column shifter but shortened up . Save room for more space in middle. The Silverado EV now has it too like the Mercedes benz models.

The dial is really easy to accidently go into park with. In the EV I don't fully stop, I change directions while in motion. I once hit park and the parking pawl happily slammed home when going for reverse as it was already half way in a position (infinite hall effect dial) so two clicks was 3 positions. It's probably slightly rounded from that one event. I also don't use park in either vehicle, just open the door and turn it off. Goes into park while engaging the parking brake.

I've already tested the rotary shifter so you guys can stop pretending you want it. You don't want it.

It feels cheap and it is loud when folding back up. I would prefer one that doesn't fold down, or even a dial shifter.

A better one, with physical stops and not feel like I'm spinning on some game show. The drive mode dial annoys me enough.

Yes, my Ram rotary has detents and light indicator for each stop. It’s worked flawlessly on my 2016 which I’ve owned since new.

I think a lot of it is what you get used to. I really like the column shifter, but I grew up driving Super Duties and Suburbans. The center console one in my Expedition reminded me on my mom’s old Hyundai Santa Fe, wasn’t my thing. My buddies Ram has the dial and he seems to like it, but I assume it took some getting used to. Chevy is bringing the column shifter back to Suburban for 2025. They had a four button setup the last few years.

Is it a definite position rotary switch? The one in the MME just spins and spins and spins. I believe they've since changed the design, but still not sure if it's an actual switch or not. I just really hate the hall effect rotary nonsense.

To be honest I don’t know. It does give enough feedback that I’ve never missed selecting P,R, or D. It’s funny though, the few times I find myself driving my wife’s Outback I sometimes reach for the knob on the dash instead of her console shifter…

I don't know what that mess is but I'd walk away from the sale.

I don't have any issues with mine, but I don't have the work surface. As a result I have have lowered it and raised it maybe 3 times. Once just to see it, once to show a buddy, and once accidentally (cleaning up something I spilled after I got to work) If I had to use it frequently I'd be a bit nervous about the longevity.

I have no faith that mine will not break eventually. I'd like to have a good quality satisfying to use rotary knob. The console shift feels cheap mechanically and takes up a lot of space.

Slowly getting used to the Console shifter in the Lariat, my last trucks were all column shift. As I do not have the work surface I do not bother to stow the shifter. It feels a bit cheesy, but overall have had no issues with it.

Drove a Bronco with the rotary dial shift and found it counter intuitive, much prefer the column or console shift over the dial.

My shifter seems to be holding up quite well. Nearly 99 percent of the time I leave the truck, I lower the shifter and open the work surface . Most of the time it’s to use a steering wheel club down on the work surface to prevent the centre console from being opened as well as added theft protection. So it’s had a good deal of use and still operates well with no issues of grinding.
