I've heard that setting the brake with the transmission in neutral, then shifting into park saves wear and tear on your transmission. Especially when parked on an incline.

You should find the ebrake setting itself on inclines. Don't trust the parking pawl.I've heard that setting the brake with the transmission in neutral, then shifting into park saves wear and tear on your transmission. Especially when parked on an incline.
The government tells auto companies several years in advance when there are new safety/emission requirements are coming.Perhaps, but IMO it's premature to speculate about the form of interlocks and / or warning devices that may be mandated.
Urban legend !I've heard that setting the brake with the transmission in neutral, then shifting into park saves wear and tear on your transmission. Especially when parked on an incline.
The park pawl test is very severe ! The vehicle drives up a special, VERY steep ramp and then is placed in park. It sits there for several minutes. This is actually a federal test (I worked in transmission engineering for a couple of years in the 1980s).You should find the ebrake setting itself on inclines. Don't trust the parking pawl.
I told a couple of friends today. They were very surprised !Agreed. When I first read about this feature I had to try it to see it work for the first time.
