After owning my 2022 F150 for over 2 year I was SHOCKED when I opened the driver door while still in Reverse and my foot on the brake and shift lever moved to Park ! Someone told me on Ford products with that silly round PRNDL selector, that it does the same thing !

Is this a new Federal safety requirement ? As of when ?

It's been like that for awhile and shouldn't be a surprise. It has also been discussed on here before

No.

It's an elective 'feature' by Ford.
This is a coming safety requirement, Ford is just ahead of the curve. The requirement is in response to multiple deaths being caused by jeeps that were not in park when the drivers thought they were and the vehicle rolled over them.

With the seatbelt off, opening the door will put it in park and engage the parking brake. You can also just turn off the truck and it's auto park as well. Very rarely do I put either vehicle w/ auto park into park.

With the auto hold feature where the vehicle holds the brakes, this feature is a must.

Also moves when you just hit the start button when stopped to shut the truck done. No need to put it in park manually.

Salesman showed me this on my 1st test drive. It’s also explained in the owners manual. It’s a crazy feature I had never known existed before buying this truck

its a bit annoying when you hop in and slide it into reverse as you shut the door..... makes me slow down a whole 5 seconds.

Perhaps, but IMO it's premature to speculate about the form of interlocks and / or warning devices that may be mandated. It could well be something very different from and simpler than Ford's current approach.

Ford isn’t the only one. I know Dodge does it as well, possibly others.

I will say that I was equally suprised the first time I saw that happen. I'm still adapting to everything being controlled by computers and electronics.

Retired and not looking. I am driving the wife crazy.
Doesn't seem to bad to me. I haven't noticed it. The wife, on the other hand, is quite unpredictable.

It’s kinda cool that if your habits involve placing the vehicle in park and setting the emergency brake before removing your seatbelt or open the door you might never see it happen.

Agreed. When I first read about this feature I had to try it to see it work for the first time.
