Good evening,

I apologize if this has been discussed before( I searched the forum) but I have owned a RAM 1500 for the last few years and am in the process of selling it to buy a new F 150.

I’d never driven a new gen F 150 and test drove a used 2022 F 150 KR over the past weekend. Are all the retractable/folding gear shift levers so cheesy and Mickey Mouse? I can understand it is needed for the mobile work platform, but in the truck I drove it was loud and cheap sounding, almost like an old d cell battery or windup powered toy. Perhaps this is an anomaly, but wow, what a poor execution. With the rest of the interior functions I expected it to be silent and fluid functioning. Maybe I’m being ridiculous, but it was really off putting. Just my .02.

Based on how it operates, it sounds like it's a worm drive for the lowering feature. They couldn't have done it with the rotary gear shifter because it sticks up. They could do it with the column shifter but those be meh meh meh. :)

Expeditions have rotary knobs like other vehicles. Not fond of it in the mach-e because it rotates infinitely. They've since changed it to positive position / 4 locations. Same goes for the drive modes, not fond of the infinite hall-effect knobs.

Again, Ram driver for at least a little while longer, but I really like the rotary drive selector on the dash. It’s second nature to me now.

the shifter is mickey mouse. but it shouldnt be overly loud. and its really only "motorized" is if you push the button to lower/raise it. or if you shut off the truck in drive it will magically move to park.
but it will fight you if you balk at moving it to D or R and back too fast.

I would have preferred the option for a column shift, but on the KR its the only option

and I agree, since they are all electronic now, just make it a rotary dial and give me another bin to throw junk

Yes, that is what I was referring to - when lowering and raising it. My wife and I actually laughed when we used that function as it was so bizarre in operation!

Just my observation, I’m still going to get an F 150 and will probably never use that function.

It's rather handy when you need desk space in the truck, be it computer, lunch, etc

It's great for those reasons, it just sounds like it's going to break when it grinds, errrr, errrr, errrr, everytime it moves. I have a bad feeling it's doing go belly up and I'll be stuck and need to take a shit after eating Chipotle on the work surface. ?

I know it's been a question since its introduction, but have there been any/many reported failures? I can recall one, which seemed to be related to low SOC.

On a completely different side note, I recall seeing something, somewhere, where a maverick owner was able to use the f150 folding shifter. I'd assume, it'd be reversible as well - use the maverick rotary dial instead of the folding shifter.

I'm not brave enough to try it though. ?

The motorized running boards are particularly loud as well and actually startled me first time they retracted.

Hey can you elaborate on this? I recognized that the shifter & I could get into a fight when I saw the magic return to park on key off in drive but I haven't found this fight, yet.

I agree, I was just thinking the used truck I drove needed some lube.
