What is a motion sensitive fob supposed to do?
The fob will stop transmitting after being motionless after some time.

I’d still prefer a hardware switch on the fob that disconnects the battery. Then it would work even in your pocket.

I am not completely secure against car theft. But I am fortunate that both my home and my workplace, the 2 most common spots that my vehicles are unattended, are not places where a thief can or would try.

Home is a barn deeply imbedded in the woods at the end of a 2.5 mile dead end road. The typical thief would never even see or approach the barn.

Work parking is in an Aviation Hangar on the security side of the TSA gate. You do not want to be seen on camera walking around in the lot that the hangar is accessed from. It'll draw attention 24/7/365.

Again, I'm not 100% secure because I do buy groceries in my small little rural town.

I leave my truck unlocked and my key in the center console when I’m at home and work….. When I do lock it away from those places it’s using the keypad and still leave the keys inside because I hate having things in my pockets.

if we park truck in weird area...like hotel or airport,
a few key fuses get replaced with same fuse, except they are blown
i figure by time they figure out which ones are dummies,
it will get attention, except at the airport
but i have not flown since 2013 so i am sure airports are a no worry for me right now

My keys end in 426. Not motion sensitive. Tried an aftermarket motion sensitive module and the keyfob randomly would just not work until I removed it.

I have an OBD lock, a faraday box, my VIN is obscured, and for when I go to the city, I have a steering wheel club. Caveat: I live in Ontario, currently in a vehicle theft epidemic, and I work in law enforcement.

Food for thought:

Gen 14 F150s are not frequently stolen here in Ontario when locked. The prize of the day is typically a Toyota Highlander or a Ram 1500. But something's changed in the last few weeks.

Reports of Gen 14 F150s being stolen have started surfacing here. Common theme is in the middle of the night and the keys are accounted for. Probably a relay attack, right?

On January 7th, 14 Ford Edges were stolen overnight from the Oakville Assembly plant.

My concern is that someone's figured out an exploit in Ford's otherwise surprisingly secure security.
In your experience, how effective are ignition kill switches? Still hear of vehicles with these still being stolen because the more clever thieves will look for them? One question I'd have with them is are they still viable if the car is actually fired up via remote start from a key fob. At that point you're not starting the car when you put your key in the ignition, you're just enabling.

Or does anyone try full battery-disconnect switches? Probably not as easy to hide, it'll have to be under the hood somewhere. But I feel a lot of would-be carjackers wouldn't bother.

My 2023 Platinum built on 6/2023 key fob ends in 26, so I guess I'm vulnerable. I do keep my fob in a farady pouch from Amazon when I'm at home, it works well.

Just curious do we have any confirmation this is available on any US vehicles? At least doing some quick googling to find more info all I could find references euro model availability.

I think this says it all. There is obviously a lot of money to be made and with so little consequences. It's a job anyone can have without worrying about having a good credit score or clear background check.
Yes, it comes down to consequences. Let's say the thief gets arrested. They'll be charged with theft of a motor vehicle, maybe possession of property obtained by crime and, barring some extenuating circumstance, immediately released from custody until their next court appearance. With how backlogged the court system in Canada is (sexual assaults are getting thrown out due to delays in prosecution) the crown has a very good incentive to plea out the charge or to pull it. That is, assuming they actually show up in court.

We might not have Kia Boys up here in Canada, but we seem to have a very different vehicle theft problem.

Can you post up the mugshots (or link) to those being arrested for this?
I'd probably crash the forum. Here's some reports from York Regional Police - they border Toronto on the north side.

And here's the five most wanted in Canada for organized vehicle theft:

So, keep in mind that most times I only deal with cars that successfully get stolen. Most stolen vehicles are unlocked with the key in the car. I've never had someone report to me that their ignition kill switch was bypassed. But, installing one comes with a series of caveats.

This guy installed one on his Lexus. Somewhere along the line the install went wrong and bricked the car. He lost his warranty and owes $20k now.

Open borders has consequences it seems. We're in the middle of a country wide dumpster fire that's just beginning to smolder below ya here. How's violent crime trending? You're a LEO so I assume you're always armed. I sure as hell am.

If they want it they will get into it or take it. Don't ever expect anything to be secure.

With a Powerboost, there's probably a million ways to set up a SSN/No-start circumstance?

Couldn't resist.

But seriously, there's got to be a hundred clever ways to disable one.

Prepare to lose your collective shit.

I'm not armed off duty. My gun gets locked up at work when I'm off, and that's normal across the country.
