Low pressure fuel pump failure RECALL

I was getting misfires so replaced the plugs and ignition coils. Then I got a check engine light related to emissions. Then it started running rough and misfiring again. Internet looping by my wife says this is related to a fuel pump issue.

My truck is in this recall and I'm not too worried. The odds are good I'll never have an issue, and if I do a crash is highly unlikely. I've had fuel pump issues on a previous vehicle and the truck sputters for a while and then I pull over and it won't start. Happened to my wife too, never a safety issue. After several minutes (or leave and come back) it would start and run normal for weeks. Replacing the in tank pump myself fixed it, but I will never do it again. I really dislike handling gas and inhaling the fumes.

I’m in the recall. Really not worried about it. I’ve done fuel pumps in most cars I’ve owned. Rather annoying. The last fuel pump I did was an Escalade. 3rd one for it. Rather than drop the tank and such, I just cut a hole in the floor….for ease on the next one.

My '21 F150 has a 36 gal tank and it is on the recall list.

Cools the pump and keeps the noise down. Might be other reasons also

I have about 6 things for Ford to fix when I bring my truck in. Few open recalls, engine light on for emissions, leaking transfer case, drivers side tow mirror not fully opening all of the time, hard shift in stop and go traffic, etc. Annoyed to say the least!

Yes and no. The fuel pump itself is the same in either tank size. The assembly the pump is installed in is different for the two tank sizes. When you buy the "fuel pump" from somewhere, you're getting the whole assembly.

Don't all vehicles have the fuel pump inside the tank these days? I think the noise, lubrication and maybe cooling are the reasons.

Pump will last way longer in the tank. I do wish it was an external pump so it would be easier to replace.
