I think it's completely rational to actually bring peace and quiet to the peace and quiet of camping. 😁

Especially since you weren't exactly being a mizer when you pony'd up for that sweet Casita!

The parts guy at Bish's RV asked me where I wanted to load the brand new factory air conditioner that I had just had them remove from the roof.
I told him don't you dare. 🤣

Never again. They are all obsolete now in my book. Like candybar cell phones after the IPhone 3 arrived and changed the game. 😎

Yeah, the Cube has sort of put me in a spot.

There are gadgets I can buy to make mine (Chill, not Cube) more efficient and more quiet but since the Cube came out in a ducted version, I'm of a mind not to spend a single cent, or any sweat and run it till it gives me reason to just replace it.

How well does that on board generator work?

you must have not had a F150 with a 5.0 and a 3.31 rear end? 27 to 28 mpgs on the highway. local driving was around 18 to 19 mpgs
Well, that leads to the question of which truck, engine, rear gears, gets the best mileage and how high that is on the priority list?

Then you have to add in how you'll use it.

If you're gonna tow much, say goodbye to your 3.31s. You'll have to go at least to the 3.55s.

4WD? Another hit to both mpg and payload, regardless of other choices.

Use your truck as a mobile office? There just isn't a better choice than a PB and it isn't remotely close.

It does seem to have inconsistent mpgs. Gently rolling terrain is better than flat and wintertime temperatures whack it pretty hard. BTW, more so than winter blend fuel, as noted here.

https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/pb-mpg-outside-temp-matters-more-than-fuel-grade.34648/

And we haven't even touched on the generator yet.

Depends on what you mean.

My 7.2KW has worked as a power source for my camper, in a way that is superior to any other. Once the battery bank is charged up, running the aircon will leave the ICE off ~ 13 minutes out of 15.

I don't know that a reason has been found yet but the other generator models, have been less successful for that use.

As a house powering generator, the ground fault protection trips, if trying to plug into the main panel, without installation of a special transfer panel.

Running cords to fridge, freezer, lights, fans, micro wave etc. works as it would with any other, with the exception again, of the ICE cycling, depending on load. So, more quiet and more efficient than any other means.

My reply was to the poster above me commenting on his 5.0.

It's simply amazing. When we had a massive wind storm and then a month later hurricane Beryl hit SE Texas we were without power for about 4 days each time. The system handled a continuous 2400-3800 watt load w/o missing a beat. I had 3 portable AC's, multiple fans, 3 refrigerators (1 large and two smaller RV sized), a full sized upright deep freezer, large toaster oven, coffee maker, my 150g saltwater tank, 4 reptile enclosures, multiple gaming computers and whole house network equipment running off the truck. The AC's and fans managed to keep the downstairs at 76F and upstairs at 78F when it was 95F outside. During this run time the truck only burned about 9-10 gallons with the AC set on low at 76 in it as well. By comparison with this same load, my large portable 9500w 12.5K burst genny will uses about 6 gallons of gas or nearly 20lbs of propane every 8-10 hours.

I ran a 220v 30A umbilical into the house then split it to a 4 way 120v plug which allows me to balance the load across the two legs of the inverter. Then the next door neighbor's garage fridge and my deep freeze I ran off the 120v outlets in the bed.

My wife attests this truck was the single best investment I have ever made. lol

As long as Ford keeps making this platform, I'll continue to buy them when the time comes to replace it.

It is simply amazing to me that anyone can see this as a tough decision if you are buying an F-150. All upside and no downside with the PowerBoost with PPoB 7.2. The bugs are now largely out of the platform. On my 3rd PowerBoost with over 50% of the miles on all of them towing.

My father in-law was considering getting one but was still not sold on it even after knowing how it handled our power needs after the storms. What ultimately impressed him the most with this platform was my going out to help him with repairing the fencing and installing new hog wire on his property in the country. I brought my California Airtools air compressor out and ran it along with all the other power tools we needed off the truck all day. He loved the fact that it powered everything with ease and didn't have to lug his generator and multiple gas cans out to the back pasture in his Mule. Less than a week later he bought a 25 platinum PB and a compressor like mine. lol

I have multiple "generators"

I have an 1800 watt solar generator
I have a 3600 watt solar generator
I have a 3000 watt Yamaha inverter
I have a Predator 3500 watt inverter (dual-fuel)

And I have the 7.2KW Powerboost ProPower generator

They all have their unique strengths and weaknesses. Different missions, if you will. But the ProPower 7.2KW generator is the one I will NEVER give up. Form factor and performance gives it advantages that no other stand alone generator can surpass. And the co$t is basically free, since it comes WITH the truck's Hybrid hardware anyway.

Actually the cost to Ford is that DC/AC inverter under the truck and the PPoB power panel in the bed. But as I am discovering the bonus, if you use that inverter in motion, is that you are likely harvesting energy that would otherwise be wasted during regeneration because of the small size of the high voltage battery. This condition is significantly enhanced when towing a heavy load with lots of mass to make regenerative electricity.

I am now SO setup to run a traditional 15amp 120V extention chord into the RV while under tow! That unused regenerative energy will be pumped into the LFP battery that is stored in the entry closet of the little RV.

Unmelted Ice cream in the freezer!
And the interior already in the 70'sF upon arrival.

Remarkable times.
Wish my grandpappy and mamaw were still here so I could pick them up and take them to the beach for a sunset. They would marvel at the "science fiction" their grandson has at his disposal daily. 😁

And that is why am so excited to get the LightShip in a few months. It has a 77 kWh battery and an electric drive motor that could use that wasted regenerative energy. These are interesting times but once you have the capacity to recoup wasted energy, magic things happen.
