if it gets really bad, drop the trailer, and have the wife or someone stay with it, and then jerry can fill the truck (roughly 100 miles range now on 5 gallons easy) and go refill if needed from the middle of no where.. could also get a 15 or 20 gallon transfer auto filler tank if you wanted..

OR this.. https://www.amazon.com/Scepter-6792...a39febf3e76b74c82d107912b32&gad_source=1&th=1 and then go buy a few snacks with the extra $2150 (NOTE about the amazon link, This is not a recommendation for that one in particular. I have never used one, and that is illustrative purposes to show that it could potentially be an option)

A larger tank with more fuel = more weight.

When traveling, I usually fill between 1/2 - full, depending on the price of gas, unless I am out west, then I always top off. We stop every couple hours for a break, so trying to drive 500 miles non-stop is not our goal.

I would mostly like the largest tank possible for fuel storage during severe weather events like hurricanes, tornados and blizzards that cripple your ability to refuel.

This x2. I always keep all my tanks full on all my vehicles because, especially here in the south, you never know. My wife, on the other hand, sometimes must forget gas stations are a thing!

Well……at least you’re not alone. I’ve had to dump in generator gas to get to the gas station because she drove home with the low light on.

Use revs instead of boost when you are towing and you will get better towing mileage and stay cooler.

36 gallon tank is overrated. They designed it shitilly and to make up for it starving for fuel after being parked at a slope; the reserve is over 5 gallons.

I don’t drive my truck often, so I like to cycle out as much fuel as I can, especially in the summer when it can go bad pretty quickly here and actually gum up the fuel pump. Despite several times taking it past zero on the DTE display; I have yet to get more than 31 gallons of fuel into the tank.

My Lincoln is spot on with the DTE and the light comes on around 50 miles to empty, which is an okay warning for most places. When it reaches 0 I need to shake the wheel to get the last bit of fuel to slosh around because a couple times the engine has started running rough in site of the gas station. I really need to drop the tank this winter and fix the leaking vent on top of the tank because for the past seven years; I haven’t been able to put more than a quarter tank in it without it spitting gas out the top.

For my truck I always top it off and usually after just half a tank other than when I want to put as much fresh fuel in as possible, or when I toy with the idea of getting e85 or if the fuel prices are peaking and I try and stretch the tank out another week or so.

Here’s some full tank fill ups from my 5.0 with the 36G tank:

Long story short, don’t worry about not having the 36 gallon tank and just never think about it again. It doesn’t have much more usable fuel than the tank in your truck now. Maybe one or two gallons.

Comes with a 30.6 gallon tank. You don't need the 36 gal tank as you get the same range.
So if the EPA rating on the F150 3.5EB PB, 3.5EB, and 5.0 V8 all have a 24 mpg highway rating, but the F150 3.5EB only has a 30 gallon fuel tank as opposed to the 36 gallon fuel tank, how do they all get the same range? The math isn't mathing here.

A larger tank with more fuel = more weight.

If you're towing a longer trailer that's not as easy to get in and out of smaller gas stations, it will matter. The 3.5EB PB gets about the same highway mpg as the 3.5EB and 5.0 V8 so you'll have less range when towing at a constant speed on the highway. I wouldn't be surprise if they all achieved about 9-12mpg while towing a trailer so that 30 gallon fuel tank is at a disadvantage.

Thanks for the info—I was under the impression I had a 26 gallon tank. Sure enough the manual says it’s 30.6. I agree that that will be big enough and not worth the effort to go to 36. If someone came up with a 40 gallon or so aftermarket, I might consider that. My concern is mileage while towing, which I will be doing. I’ll be pulling a 7800 lbs trailer GVWR, not dry weight.
More gallons = more weight. Depending on how many passengers (and cargo) you have while towing and the tongue weight of your trailer you may be be pushing the payload of a Powerboost Lariat with that size trailer.

33 gallons every time on my 36 gallon tank since March. Last year was more the 31 gallons like you are seeing. I wonder if an update tweaked the math. ?

Not at all. Have you ever heard of the 5 P's?

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance

If you travel with kids or in our case, dogs, stopping every couple hours makes a much more pleasant trip.

We plan our fuel stops and only stop at major chain fuel stops with lots of room like Buckees, Loves, TA, Little America ect.

Nothing like fueling up, stretching your legs while the generator cools off the RV, a light snack, short nap, then back on the road. That's how we roll in our family.

So you don't prefer to stop at Top Tier branded fuel stops... ;)

All the debate on oil and fuel has resulted in a lot of people with a lot less money in their pockets.

I get my oil changes at Ford and I buy my fuel from nationwide chain outlets.

Want to guess how many times in my 49 years of driving that I have had an oil or fuel related casualty?

I go back to... this is probably what the GM 1500 guys with a 24 gallon gas tank tell the Ford guys with a 30 gallon gas tank... which appears what the Ford guys with a 30 gallon gas tank tell the other Ford guys with a 36 gallon fuel tank.

Sounds to me like this is a first world problem that really isn't a problem.

I lived in a country where the entire family goes to town on a single scooter and that beats walking.

As far as my 30.6 gal fuel tank goes, I have zero envy about what anyone else has.

I was content with the 26 gal fuel tank in my 2020 as well.

Never once have I said "This trip is going to be a disaster because I do not have the largest fuel tank available."

Is the real issue that you are unhappy because I am happy?

My issue wasn’t dissatisfaction or envy (at least I hope not), but the reality that many times towing my trailer I can get going and don’t want to stop for five hours or so. If I get 10 mpg that puts me over 300 miles. I’d rather not be on a razors edge of running out of gas. But I’m fully satisfied with my truck. In fact, I’ve ruled out any gas tank modifications. When towing I’ll put a five gallon can in my bed. Best of all worlds. No extra weight when not towing.
