I've been reading different threads for a year now and I've finally decided to join. First thanks to all of you who got me informed in this thread. We ran out of power last weeks so I did used my Powerboost to feed my house via multiples power cords... Now I want a real generator breakers panel!! My son has one at his house and uses a Firman generator which has a bonded neutral. Yesterday, I went and tried my 7.2 KW and YES it works. He has a SIEMENS EQ Load Center, generator panel. On the picture the main panel is connected on the left hand side of the panel.
What an abortion On that electrical install! Get the right equipment as is required by the National Electrical Code

If you want to just switch the entire house over to your truck and pick and choose which circuits to power, you need a 4 pole transfer switch like this one:

You will still need need an enclosure and handle for that one.... so you are creeping into the price of another generator at that point, but you can get what you want.
Disagree as to a 4 pole switch. You do not need to transfer the ground wire, so you only need the two hot wires & the neutral wire switched over. On the other hand if the generator is converted to a floating neutral then even this is not needed.

What you seem to be unaware of... is that there are several ways to comply with the NEC.
Seriously? By violating the listing and labeling requirements? By ignoring the grounding requirements? Both “methods” Are gross violations and I would love to see a wire inspector pass any of these ways of putting people in danger.

Are you for real? Your post shows you have no idea of what the NEC requirements are...

Never saw the internal of an electrical panel with label on every wires. You may find this ugly but I don't see how this put people in danger. For the grounding, well the ground is there so not sure what you are referring to. BTW we follow CSA in Canada not NEC and I know you have some difference as you can use the main panel as a junction box and we can't. I'm sure there is more....

You use NEC for electrical installation. CSA are standards for equipment like our UL listing

I thought Canada’s analog to the NEC is the Canadian Electric Code (CE Code). The CE Code and the NEC are very similar but there are differences.

OK thanks for the clarification but we still can't use the main panel to create a junction as when you use the breaker panel for generator i.e. Generac 6854. I believe this is allowed in the US. So i"m not sure if we follow NEC with modifications... I'm not an electrician and I didn't do that job but I know it works well with my 7.2KW.

It works because it switches the neutral. It’s ugly is what I’m sayin
