A combination of many of the above mentioned reasons.

As we did not want to move into the HD/SuperDuty realm, when compared against not only Chevy, but other brands, Ford won out in regard to engine options (vs) performance, fuel capacity, towing capacity, feature set, and seat comfort, especially when considering our plan to pull a couple's TT over extended distances.

Government Motors....they still owe us tax payers $16B. During the 08 melt down we tax payers bought GM stock to the tune of $32B, sold it back to GM for $16B....Add to that Chrysler is now owned by the French.......

I'm just a Ford fan boy and have been for a long, long, time. Gotta admit though, I like the look of tbe newest Silverado but it wasn't enough to make me buy one

I've have always bought GM's. 68 years. But GM closed our Lordstown Cruze plant (In Ohio) and put 6000 workers out of employment. The UAW tried effortlessly to talk GM into moving some of its Mexico production up into the facility. When GM told them to hug a root, I moved on from GM and will buy something different my remaining years on earth.. I have never, in 68 years purchased anything but a UAW product, so it only left Ford and Chrysler to choose from. I drove both and decided on the Ford because of the solid feel from the steering. Chryslers over assisted power steering is a turn off to me. I don't want a vehicle that I can drive with one finger. I like to feel what's beneath me. And I made the right choice. This Platinum 5.0/3.73 is awesome.

Let’s talk about a few positives with GM.
1. You can get the baby 3.0 Duramax Diesel.
2. you don’t have to order high trims to get auto 4 wheel drive.
3. you can get real doors on the double cab instead of suicide
doors on the super cab.
4.The cut out on the rear fender to use as a step.
5. A 10 speed transmission that shifts 100% smoothly 100% of the
time.
6. Dual exhaust available on most trims.

I know California is stupid, but that has to be the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. What does the size of a gas tank have to do with emissions? You'll "pollute" the CA hypocrites' air with the same amount of gasses, whether it is a one fill of 36 gallons or two fills of 48.
"California. The land of fruits and nuts. Where every fruit is a little nutty and every nut is a little fruity". [Archie Bunker, circa 1978]
Remember, when you remove the fruits and nuts, you still have a bunch of flakes.

...because of history. My family was always GM, so my first two autos (that I bought) were Chevys. Watched them rot away on both the inside (rapidly deteriorating plastic) and out (the infamous paint vanishing act). To be fair, all the manufacturers had problems with this back in the 80s, but still. Turned me off to Chevy. Went Ford and more than a dozen vehicles later I have never looked back.

...because if I was going to buy GM it would be a GMC. Not too thrilled with the look of the 1500, but GMC does it better.

I did recently buy a Chebbie. It was 100% based on price and availability. My current wants/needs/driving style are very basic and spartan. I’m agnostic on styling, color, wheels/rims appearance, etc.

My first new truck was a 1976 GMC Sierra RCSB. In the 1980’s had a variety of used trucks (Ford, Chevy, Ram). I’ve owned new F150’s since the 1990’s until recently, had generally very good experience with them, no major complaints.

Earlier this year I looked hard at both a basic 2wd ’24 F150 XL 5.5’ bed Screw and a basic 2wd ’24 Silverado 1500 WT SBCC. My ‘wants’ list included a bench seat (back and leg ailments, need to move my legs around a lot on longer trips), hitch receiver, cruise control, power & heated sideview mirrors, rear window defroster, tinted windows. That’s it. I compared standard features of each, what option package (if any) it would take to tick off my minimum ‘wants’ boxes, and then price and ‘availability for purchase and use within a ~3 month period’.

There is absolutely positively no doubt that you get more/better standard features with a base model ’24 Ford F150 XL trim than you do with a base model ’24 Silverado 1500 WT trim. Everything from a telescoping and tilt steering wheel on the F150 (vs tilt-only on Silverado), Ford with BLIS (not on Silverado), the list goes on. I definitely would have liked the 2.7 liter engine in both of them as a 6 cylinder EB vs the 4 banger “TurboMax” (what a horrible name for an engine).

The difference was price and availability. I compared a fly-drive Granger Ford order price against any local (within ~100 miles or so of where I live) Chevy dealer. I basically monetized what the additional ‘content’ I’d get with the F150 was worth. And uncertain ‘Build to Order’ timeframe with Ford came into play. My target price after dealer discount-incentives-rebates/before trade-in was $35K.

The price delta (after dealer discount, incentives/rebates, etc but before any trade-in) was around ~$4500 (advantage to Chevy). And that was after including a $2000 PCO I had if I’d have gone with the F150. Also if I’d have gone the Granger route I’d effectively have had no trade-in ability (my F150 trade-in was a 2wd XLT, no market for them in Iowa). The Chevy dealer trade-in offer was slightly (a couple hundred $) under CarMax/Carvana offers I had in-hand, and by doing trade-in also saved a lot (over $1500) of sales tax money (I live in in a high tax state/Parish). And Chevy dealer, like Granger, had no add-on crap on the truck.

So, it was an easy choice for me. As they say, YMMV.

I did not buy a Chevy because...

They are:
slower
heavier
less engineered.
uglier
worse mileage
worse motors - cyl deactivate etc (guys here had 3 blow up)
the GM govt bailout - like someone else said! Ford never took any welfare.
They copy Ford - "Turbomax engine"

Design lineage is much more cohesive with Ford. GMC and Chevy trucks are dated and very random with styling cues along with tech. GM 1500's are slow heavy dogs, boring to drive, like plus 1000lbs. You can't get a 10 speed with a turbo motor. Ford got DOE money but only 6B, they invested it in their infrastructure and the Eco boost tech, they are now fully repaid back to US tax payers. GM got 50B, has only repaid 8B and boasts about it, what have they done with our 42B in the last decade?

I can't afford a 3500 DRW 4x4 Denali with the Duramax/Allison.
The Denali on average is going to cost $8,000 more than the same truck under the Chevrolet badge. It is like buying the F-150 Platinum model and complaining about how expensive it is.

DRW makes sense for a 15,000 plus lb 5th wheel trailer but otherwise is overkill as is the full size Duramax engine. I had no issues towing a 13,000 lb boat and trailer with my SRW Duramax and no problems with accelerating to be able to safely merge with freeway traffic. The diesel engine provided double the ft lb of torque of the gas V-8 engine for these trucks which made a huge difference when towing a heavy trailer load.

well to keep it short and sweet...
GM interiors to me have looked the same for AGES! I've just never liked how GM has had their interiors laid out on top of looking and feeling outdated.

Now, I will admit the past few years with the introduction of digital dashes, they do seem/feel more up to date.

I will admit Chevys dont look nice but GMC's Denalis do haha

and i dont like their power train offerings. haha
