Had dealership change my oil, 2022 F150 5.0 ( Motorcraft 5W-30 semi syn), but the DIP stick is reading 1/4 - 1/2 inch higher past the second hole on the dipstick? Is this a problem or normal fill past the max fill on the reading? I read the manual and it say's MAY cause problems.. Don;t want to cause issue for Dealership mech but the bill was $128 for an oil change!!!

I measured my garage floor and perfectly horizontal with bubble square and waited 15+ mins to read it. *Just wondering as this is my new truck.

I have my oil changed by the selling dealer at 5k intervals.
My oil level is always quite a bit higher than the range indicator on the stick.
I’m at 43k now in my 21 5.0

I would venture to guess that as long as the level of oil in the pan does not breach the operating area of the crankshaft, you will be fine. That will just turn the oil into a bunch of air bubbles.
If going off road and getting into some serious angles one way or another, that may cause issues, but on flat surfaces should not be a problem

And how can you tell at what point on the dipstick showing an over fill that the crank will start hitting the oil in the sump and start frothing it?

Also in my experience the 5.0 L takes a lot longer for the oil to drain back to the pan to get an accurate, stable reading, a minimum of 4-5 hours or overnight.

Having it inside the range, usually hashed area on dipsticks, is best. I wouldn't worry about a little over. More important not to be underfilled.

I suspect it will be even higher when you check after it sits overnight. Better to have dealer drain a little than take a chance.

I wouldn’t worry over 1/8-1/4, but 1/2 is a wee bit much.

A high level can damage the engine. The issue is if the crankshaft touches the oil it can cause frothing of the oil. This then can lead to starvation of the bearings...nNote it happens if you check oil before the first run after filling the level will be high since some oil will be retained inside the engine. But 1/2" high is too much. Keep in mind that the actual high mark is not the second hole, it is a line below that.

Another reason my truck doesn't go to the dealer for anything other than a warranty claim.

The techs don't care about my truck as much as I do, and they don't have time for attention to detail. That's a recipe for flubs. I have all day to look things over, once, twice, whatever it takes to make it perfect.

When I did my first oil change I put in the listed 7.7 quarts from the owners manual. It was way over the top hole so I sucked some out with a vacuum pump. Ever since I put in 7 quarts even and the level is between the hash marks and the top hole the next morning.

Just returned from Dealer who made me wait around and sent me home with instructions of wait 10 minutes and check reading. I sent back pictures of my plumb garage floor and the reading of a bit more than 1/4 inch past MAXIMUM reading hole as described in FORD owners manual. THEY have been notified now. Never taking it back but for warranty work again.

I’m gonna 8 qts and did not allow for it to fully drain, or did not change filter.

I usually get the 8 qts and dipstick reads just above the hole.
I checked it last week (cold-sat overnight) and it was reading very similar to the OP.
I usually only check at around 3k on the oil.
I’m really not to concerned with a v8.

I believe the pre’21 engines (5.0) held 8.7
Perhaps “tech” used that from old memory

Seeing the stick that is way higher than picture in my head. I'd drain some if you can. Or change it all if necessary to get it right.

When I change my oil (2024 F-150 XLT with V8), I only put 7 quarts in instead of the indicated 7.75 quarts. This seems to place the oil level right at the top hash mark. Mentioned something to a mechanic friend of mine and he said it's not unusual to not get all of the oil out of the engine when draining. He said to keep doing what I was doing. Just FYI.
