I ordered a Lariat with front row bench seat and just realized it does not come with heated steering wheel. Granted it’s a first world problem I’d be very interested in getting it installed afterwards.

anyone in the same situation and have made any attempts?

Update:
I haven't done it myself yet but looks like our fellow members have found the solution here.
I'm still in the progress of digesting everything and I'll post updates as I go through the entire thread.
DM me if I'm missing anything.

Things you will most likely need to complete the retrofit:

- A Steering Wheel that supports the heated steering wheel (HSW) feature, some with the HSW delete from factory may already have the HSW itself just missing the control module.
- A Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) that can send power to the HSW. e.g. ML3Z-3F791-BB (you highly unlikely have it in place if no HSW feature from factory).
- Harness(es) with appropriate wiring/pin out (some already have them in place).
- (optional) HVAC control panel that has the heated steering wheel button. Part no. ML3Z-19980-K ford replacement parts or ML3T-18C612-DE.
Alternatively you can program your head unit to show a soft button on the screen.
- FORScan and appropriate coding.

From what I understand the procedure should be as follows:
1. Make a backup of as built values in FORScan
2. take the airbag off to check what parts/harness you currently have, this is because some may already have the heated wheel in place and just missing the SCCM due to chip shortage.
3. check if the harness/pins are already in place
4. purchase necessary parts for the retrofit
5. install, load factory as-built values into SCCM (and HVAC), make appropriate changes to allow HSW to work.

How to configure head unit as super duty to show the climate side card?

I'm not sure if this will work or not but instead of replacing the HVAC controls for the HSW button, you guys could try enabling the soft button in Sync with the following in FORScan:

APIM 7D0-02-02 xxx* xxxx xx--
APIM 7D0-02-01 xxxx *xxx xx-

hsw.webp
isn't that called the unreal theme or something like that?

Adaptive steering was only an option on the platinum and limited. The number you listed is the correct one

eta: the wheel is currently on backorder, but the price has come down drastically.

I've read through this monster thread a few times over the last few months debating if it is worth doing. I have a June built '23 plat and am curious if I am likely to have any of the necessary parts already- like a heated steering wheel. Anyone run across these already installed and just a SCCM needed?

Seems like a good chunk of the later built 23's are all prewired to the SCCM so that makes it easy. For you though, you need to figure out if you have adaptive steering or not since you have a platinum as wheel and module will be different for both.

I'll have to look to see what adaptive steering is, I have the usual BC and lane centering- but guessing this is something different. I don't recall having to think about it when I ordered as I did with the other options, so will have to do some digging. Appreciate the response.

If I remember right, a few folks on this thread talked about already having a heated steering wheel when they dug into this mod, guess I'll just have to take mine off and see what is there.

Edit- after looking up what adaptive steering is, I'm pretty sure I don't have it.

Got the new HSW installed in my '21 302a today. Everything seems to be working great. JScaro's harness and included instructions were a huge help, as was Scott Maxson's 302a specific instructions posted by fayby. The YouTube videos helped a lot as well.

Even with the 302a specific ForScan instructions, I had to make some adjustments for my specific truck. Some of my original values were different, but JScaro's instructions helped me sort through it.

Hi all, 21 Lariat 501a looking to add the heated wheel. However I'm on my 3rd APIM and still no updates. If I add this does it mess with the APIM?

Also are these all the parts I need?
1. ML3Z 3600 RA - STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY (Heated steering wheel)
2. W721079 S437 - BOLT AND WASHER (Steering wheel bolt & washer)
3. ML3Z 19980 K - CONTROL (HVAC module assembly - with heated steering wheel button & digital temp display)
4. ML3Z 3F791 BB - HOUSING ASSEMBLY (Clock spring assembly)
5. WPT 404 WIRE ASSEMBLY (Power/ground plug for clock spring assembly)
6. DU2Z 14474 EA - TERMINAL (4 pack of wire terminals with correct end to pin BCM plug - only 1 needed)

Thanks.

Yep, you got it. To make it easy, I would suggest @JScaro harness to save yourself some time to combine 5 & 6.

For future reference, on a 302A with Lane centering, and if i was okay with just having the soft button on the screen, would this parts list also work?
