I have a 1/4 inch plywood board Hanging in the front of garage with elastic cords about 3 inches from the front wall. It has a soft towel on the front. I bring my truck in and just touch it. You can see a little movement when you come into the garage and touch it. Then I know I am good to go. I have used this method for a while. It works well. Low Tech and pretty much failproof.

Unfortunately, on my truck, they’re way too cautious to use for tight parking. They start beeping when you are about 4’ away from something and you still have between 2’ and 18” when it becomes a solid warning tone, or red on the touchscreen.

Same for the side facing sensors, they’re more for warning you about things than helping you park. I wish there was a ‘city’ mode where you could set them to be more sensitive if you are moving really slowly. I don’t know what giant parking spots Ford thinks everyone has but I am not impressed by the factory settings of the front or rear sensors.

Has anyone else have the calibration of the parking sensors change? I don't know if it was an OTA update or if, like transmission shift points, the parking sensors learn and adapt.

I just know that suddenly my parking sensors were way more chill starting a few weeks ago, I have been parking in the exact same spot, next to the exact same vehicles that haven't moved since I picked up my F-150. Where once I was getting alarm tones and visual warnings on the 360 view screen, now I'm not getting them until I pull farther up.

IMO the front, back, and especially side collision avoidance / parking sensors are WAY too sensitive and annoying! It's like all hell is breaking loose whenever I pull into my driveway and back into the garage. I have a row of arborvitaes that I pull alongside of, within 3-5 feet, and the side sensors start screaming at me. Then when backing up into the garage, between the PB backup beeping and the parking sensors alarms going crazy, it's unnecessarily stressful doing a simple back up. I'm getting in the habit now of stopping momentarily and turning them off (pressing the parking sensor button on the screen).

There should be a setting to adjust the sensitivity of the sensors, or at the very least the sound volume. The side sensors are especially over-sensitive (I can be 4' feet away from something and the sensor is flashing red).

It has been 20 years since I last owned a full size pickup. So happy to have the front and rear parking sensors and 360 camera. As others have said, the sensors start to beep beep beep and the 360 camera kicks on when you get within about 3 feet of an object. Solid tone at about 1 foot away. For my ears the tone and volume is not annoying, just noticable. These work perfectly for my application. In a parking lot if somebody walks behind with a shopping cart, 3 feet seems like a reasonable safety margin. And I don't ever need to park closer than one foot to anything. One tip, it is helpful to temporarily turn auto hold off when inching into a space, otherwise you have to overcome the brake. I have the "custom" button set to Driver Assistance so this takes just two clicks. Gotta remember to turn it back on though!
