I am in the process of coating my garage floor and I could use some advice. I had coated the floor about 18 years ago with Epoxy Shield but it did not hold up well, probably due to a lack of proper preparation. So this time I am doing as much prep as I can. So far I have repaired some spalling at the edge of the slab and diamond scratched the entire floor twice. Some of the original coating remains along the edges but it is not coming up.

Here are some questions/concerns

1. Since I have diamond ground the surface, do I need to clean the concrete? The same goes for acid etching.
2. Should I prime the floor, and if so what product should I use? One or two part primer?
3. Will primer make the epoxy coating cover better?
4. What coating should I use? I am thinking of using Rocksolid simply because it is readily available. I also plan on top coating as well.

Thanks.

My observation, if this is a prepped floor, is that it is not diamond ground enough. IMO you shouldn't see any staining marks, subtle or obvious, that I see in these pics.

I agree, here are pictures where they used a quick set product to fill in any cracks and pitting and after sanding.

i’m too poor for this thread lol
It was $6,500 for the garage/back patio and $6,500 for the driveway. Less than replacing any of one of them. The garage/back patio is one color, and the driveway is another that they call new cement.

PolyPro did my garage & back patio 8 years ago and returned to do the driveway last spring. Holding up perfectly.

They sanded/ground cement, filled cracks/pits, applied color coat, flakes, and top coat sealer (polyasparatic).

I did the pool deck grip products on patio and driveway and it is significantly more grippy. Also did the commercial protection coating on driveway for chemicals for any visitors leaking stuff on driveway.

I love my epoxy floor. It was not cheap and the end result is amazing. AB epoxy from Delco PA did a outstanding job. There's a ton of prep work involved but the end result is well worth the time and cost.
