So I ended up buying a 2021 4Runner instead of the F150. Had to buy a vehicle that hasn't been significantly updated in a decade to get that homelink functionality. Lol!

Some systems sense your phone entered the zone and automatically opens the door. So no distractions from reaching for that Homelink button.

Then integrate with Philips Hue or similar systems to turn on lights, perhaps some music. All automatic.

Modules and visors will show up on eBay in a few months. Pretty cheap mod if you compare to upgrading to Lariat. I just wish an XLT had powerfold mirrors. I like my lariat, but an XLT with katskinz leather is a good value these days.

I feel Ford purposefully withholds nominal features like a built in garage door opener, colour matched & power folding mirrors, ambient lighting, heated steering wheel, etc. as a way to entice/force you to buy the higher trim model (ie. Lariat & up).

What else would make it a higher trim package if not higher trim items?

Just get rid of "trim" levels and just provide me a menu of options I can build my truck with. For starters ford can come up with a better build website. On ford.ca I couldn't even add copilot assist 2.0 to my xlt, had to go into the dealer and get them to build the truck on paper.

I wouldn't necessarily call a simple button to open your garage door a "high trim item." Just seem funny how Ford gives XLT owners access to things like the 12" center screen & 360 cameras - options I would consider to be "higher trim" - but won't provide a garage door opener.

It would be awesome to just pick and chose individual items rather than whole packages and trim levels when building your rig. I have a feeling we can thank Ford's accountants for not giving buyers this much freedom when shopping.

It is really pathetic not to have it. People break car windows and hit the physical button on a stand alone garage opener all the time to break in.

I didn't even think about a garage door opener not being included until I took delivery of my XLT and discovered it wasn't. Every new vehicle I've purchased since 03 has had it. Certainly expected a $60K, new truck to have it. Still, not a big deal. Had an extra universal laying around and it works.

feel the same way. But hey on the bright side at least I’m able to use the garage opener clip, for
my sons baseball picture on the visor like the good ole’ days. ?

Can also break the window and open garage door from the Homelink button on the visor.

And that is why I prefer not having homelink since I cannot get the truck in our garage. I've since upgraded our openers to wifi capable so can open/close them via phone app if I get too lazy to carry the clicker or use the external keypads.

Just get the visor with the integrated opener. It’s not a big deal. I did that for my base-level (1LT) Corvette Grand Sport. Happy I did.

Not having the garage door opener on an XLT 302a is not as big of an issue with me but not having the option to get a heated steering wheel is. I have heated seats, so why not a heated steering wheel? Come on Ford!
