I wish I could go bigger and put a little wood shop in, but I can't go much bigger. Maybe a shed in the yard for that purpose
One thing I will tell you, put in the piping for infloor heat. Where you use it or not. It is there incase you want to add it down the road. I keep my shop at 57 or 58 f all winter. Can work in there in just a shirt or thin jacket.

The wife an I are in the beginning stages of a reno/addition and am looking into a garage. I'm curious to see what sizes you guys have. I'm thinking at least 26'x26' and I know everyone says the bigger the better but, I think that's as big as our property will allow. Anyway, ideally I'd like to be able to open at least 1 vehicles doors and some room for a workbench, any thoughts
A Screw 5.5 box truck will fit with some room, a Screw with a 6.5 box will be tight and the only work room would be in front of the non truck stall then subtract 36" for a service door your left with about 8' for a work bench.

Go to your local zoning officials and find out the real facts.

Here we can go much larger when attached to the home but limited to 1200 (30x40)square feet when detached. But a detached can be closer to the property lines than when attached to the home.

Present attached garage on a ranch type home built in 1973 the attached garage is 26Wx28D. Enough room to have a cabinet system and just room enough to check the oil on a 22 Screw 5.5' box truck. 6.5' box would be very tight and one would have limited access to open any cabinet doors.

Here when building a detached garage we were limited to 1000 detached and built because of location at 24Dx40W year later they upped it to 1200 square feet. Today just shake my head not having that 6 extra feet.

Hang on boys! Here comes the pictures from the 25 year-olds showing pictures of their 6 car garages with their Lightning, a Ferrari, three Ducati’s, a speed boat, two jet ski’s, a wall of Snap-On Tool cabinets, and a $30,000 epoxy floor saying “Well I worked for this my ENTIRE LIFE. No ones given me anything!” ?

We have a 3 car garage but utilize the 2 car side for our vehicles. It's 25' deep and 26' wide. I pull my truck in forward, a bit to the right and then back straight. My wife backs her 2017 Honda CRV in with the rear towards the outside wall. She can open doors fully on both sides and I can open both driver's side doors fully. The passenger side of my truck has enough room to partially open doors and not get in the third bay. I'd say 26x26 is good, if your 2nd car is short enough for the bench.

We have a 20x22, with tools, storage cabinets etc. in it you aren't parking the truck in it. Only nice thing is it has 12' ceilings. For just parking and some basic storage I would go 28x28 if possible that way you have some room to get around the cars, open doors comfortably without worrying about dinging the other car etc. In an ideal world I would like to go 30x50 so I could have a workshop in one area and room to park the cars.

Also, unrelated to the size, if you are going to have an automatic opener, I HIGHLY recommend a jackshaft opener. They free up so much space and are much quieter than even a belt drive overhead model, less maintenance as well.

When the wife and I moved to Nevada, we really wanted some shop space to park our vehicles out of the sun/weather and have room for my tools and our projects. We lucked out big time! The measurements escape me at the moment but it's a "T-shaped" space that can fit 3 vehicles of almost any size comfortably with 4 in a pinch. We have another out-building that can easily fit a very large truck or two small cars. It's hard to tell from this angle but there would be enough room to park another car or small truck on the other side of the Mustang.

Mine is a 24’x40’ with 10’ ceilings. I couldn’t go any wider because of property line issues. If I could do it over I’d go 24’x48’ with 16’ ceilings (I’d actually take 12’ or 14’ ceilings if I couldn’t get 16’) the height is critical because you can stack vehicles with lifts.

24’ wide is not wide enough for full size vehicles unless you have two walls with nothing along them which isn’t realistic.

if I had no width constraints I’d go 36’x36’ with the same 16’ ceilings. That’s a perfect two car garage for full size trucks.

As if you needed any more reasons to get a jackshaft style opener, modern ones tend to have battery back-ups built in (this has come in handy so many times)!

Retired and not looking. I am driving the wife crazy.
Buy the widest RESIDENTIAL garage door. Do a 5 panel door, not the usual 4. Add three feet on both sides. 26 feet in depth will get you some room for storage and tool box. The walls will hold your more serious tools, like grinders, saw horses, air compressor, etc. Work around your truck door opening needs for the placement of things running down the walls, then park both your F250's in there. You should be able to park with plenty of room between the truck doors and the wall.

Do it or you will regret it. Guaranteed. I am on my 4th house. I was always thinking I had plenty of room in my garage. House three was a 4 car garage. I could get 4 cars in there, but it was tight.

House four is actually 4 cars. I exactly doubled what I suggested above for 4 cars with about 30 feet between the door opening and the front wall. That means 6' between doors. I finally have plenty of space. I also installed a full 12,000 lift in one stall, but that is a 14' ceiling there. May not be doable for you. I can keep a very large truck on top, and the usual sedan or small SUV underneath for the 4th position, then three very large trucks/SUV's in the remaining positions.

Park your Lightning/other electric cars about 30 feet from the house and garage. Put the charger out there. You don't need to be BBQ'd in the middle of the night.

Now, with that 5th panel added to the door your wife can probably park her F250 in there with no problems. Let me tell you, that is worth a lot of very valuable points to get my wife's F250 in the garage.

By the way, I definitely agree with the 10' ceilings. I forgot to mention it.

Also PLUGS. Put 4 or 5 per wall. Also wired for 220 for the air compressor. Also, lighting. I put 17 8' florescent tubes on two switches. When I switch them on I can see. They are up 10' or 14', so should not get in the way. You may think that is overkill, but it is not. You will see like never before. My electrician said, as usual, we have never done that before. I charged them $30 for schooling.

Add natural gas or propane for ceiling corner heat, or even better, two Mitsubishi heat pumps on the wall which heat or cool. They dehumidify as well. The little pumps are constantly clearing condensation.

Foam the ceilings and walls. Foam the entire house if you can. When we moved 10 years ago to this house we increased garage space substantially and was up 33% on square footage. Electric bill never changed, even with the added heat pumps.
