I would climb to the passenger side door and get out, the other time I just sat there for 5 minutes constantly trying to squeeze the door handle and push the door open and it worked. It’s happened 2 times before I brought it in, all when it was colder than -6 Celsius. The whole inside door handle would be completely stuck. When I brought it in for the first time It was only -2 outside, the truck warmed up for 10 mins outside and by the time I got to the dealer it was working fine, they took everything apart and said it was okay. Happened again so I drove straight to the dealer and they were able to take the door apart and see what was going on as the issue was occurring. They said that actuator wasn’t working and the lock assembly was broken. They also mentioned that sometimes the rod has a bend in them from factory and it causes issues. When the issue was occurring I wasnt able to use the key and manually turn the lock from the outside

Having the freezing lock issue on my 21 KR, passenger side only though, so far this winter. The door won’t open from the inside and the lock won’t move, like your drivers door. But I have found if you open the passenger window and reach in and hold the door handle open, I can get the door open by pulling on the door from the outside.

There was some big legal action for this particular issue a few years back and it was nasty.

At first Ford denied any wrongdoing and liability and basically told everyone to kick rocks but after some time and I guess a lot more complaints they eventually spilled the beans on how they chose the cheaper parts knowing they were prone to issues in cold weather because they didn’t think the probability of malfunctioning was high enough for concern.

All the people that could prove their truck had this issue were given a few hundred bucks for compensation. That’s it. And to make it worse, they made it a real mission to prove that you had the issue caused by their shitty parts. You had to have documentation of at least 3 or 4 times you brought it in for repair.

I agree, there is no way for an individual to make these corporations do the right thing. I`m just old and have been buying Fords for me, my wife and my companies for over fifty years. I never had a Ford truck that I didn`t just love right from the start and all the controls, gearing, handling looks etc were all perfect. All these truck were well built, no recalls no warranty problems and able to drive without worry of a breakdown. But that was the old FoMoCo and all that has changed now with the new FoMoCo. These F150s are the absolute worse vehicle I`ve ever owned or even know of. 23 pages of problems on this forum on one model truck? Electrical problems, mechanical problems, horrid ergonomics to point of safety issues and unsafe driving. I could and will go on at some point but need to get said truck loaded with survival gear for trip out of town in the morning.

We get actual cold temperatures here, no problems at -40 yet.
Me either although mine sleeps in a heated garage so -25 doesn't really bother it :D

I find it more of a moisture issue with freeze thaw cycles that causes the locks to freeze when it turns cold. Not as much humidity there when it’s -40 a compared to us folks in Ontario. Sometimes rain during the day and then below zero at night.

It’s been -10 to -20C in my area for the past few weeks and all doors have either been unable to open at all or won’t close once they’ve been opened.

I start the engine for At Least 15mins every morning which has caused about a 25% loss in fuel consumption. And it doesn’t even really help but does make a bit of a difference in how long I’ll have to drive with one hand holding it shut.

By the time my 2021 arrives it won’t be as cold so I won’t really get to test the doors.

Has anyone had The F150 frozen door issue on their 2021??
I had this problem on my 2018 ALL the time when we hit single digits Fahrenheit (Michigan). There was a recall, where they installed 'shields' that were supposed to cover the locking mechanisms and prevent ice from forming - but still had occasional issues. With my 2021, and being in the middle of single digit-weather, I haven't had a single issue - knock wood. And I've also been through a car wash or two - so it appears they've fixed the problem in the redesign. Now if I could only get the parking sensors to stop going off when it gets this cold we'd be all set!

Exact same thing for me. My 2018 was a nightmare but my 2021 hasn’t had this problem yet. I don’t think they’ve fixed or redesigned it though. There’s quite a few people on here experiencing that very unfortunate issue.

This has been my experience as well with freeze thaw cycles. I've had it be sub-zero, get in to my car fine but have the door be frozen shut when I get to the destination. I think the car warming up is melting some water which is getting in mechanisms in the door and then freezing during driving.

I'm hoping I can get some relief having the dealer check the door alignment, I'm not convinced it is shutting tight correctly. I just haven't raised the energy to start the process with them. Dreading it.

Both doors on drivers side are not usable when temp is below about 30F. When I back into my driveway, the passenger side is not accessible due to a hedge. So I tied a rope to a plastic stool and leave the driver window open. After climbing through the driver window in the morning, I can pull the stool up into the cab so I have it with me if needed.
That's awful.. at this point to me it's no longer a fun vehicle to own. We pay good money for these vehicles and Ford, willingly it seems, allows us to struggle with basic function like opening/closing a door.

No F150 owner deserves to deal with this but it’s especially disturbing that someone with a platinum model has to deal with it. And that’s some serious BS for the amount of money that truck costs.

I’m praying for you Pete but definitely check out the laws and regulations in your area because I’m pretty sure a certain number of visits to the service department warrants some kind of compensation or reimbursement

Noting for me.
I did take her to the car wash to get the salt off and when I got home I had chunks of ice between the body and the running boards. This caused the back passenger door to not close unless slammed.

hammer and screw driver to knock the ice off.
Lesson learned

Just spoke with the service department. They're ordering a new door latch. See what happens than...I'm in ON, Canada and we don't have the lemon laws you have down there.

I’m in Canada too. Ontario. We must have something to protect us. I know it’s not going to be as nice as what they got in the states but there’s no way these companies can just go around screwing people out of their money in plain sight.

It’s even worse when the dealerships aren’t willing to help or are totally clueless about the problem. I used to send little videos of my doors not working to them and they would just tell me to swing by and Theyll take a look at it. In the three years that I had the truck it was never repaired. Fortunately it was a lease because And that’s why I didn’t really push for anything but if I had bought that truck I would probably be in jail right now for doing some dumb shit against the dealership

Though I have not had the problem with my 2021 I have had good luck in the past with silicone spray on freezing door gaskets to keep moisture from accumulating and than freezing. Just a thought.
