It’s been -10 to -20C in my area for the past few weeks and all doors have either been unable to open at all or won’t close once they’ve been opened.

I start the engine for At Least 15mins every morning which has caused about a 25% loss in fuel consumption. And it doesn’t even really help but does make a bit of a difference in how long I’ll have to drive with one hand holding it shut.

By the time my 2021 arrives it won’t be as cold so I won’t really get to test the doors.

Has anyone had The F150 frozen door issue on their 2021??

No issues yet for me. I’m in the thick of winter, too. So far February has been very cold and snowy with low temps in the single digits.

So far so good.

I have a pretty good feel that 2021’s won’t see much of this issue

No problem with frozen doors for me. I park outside so it’s covered with snow.

my 2016 had a frozen tailgate once in a while but no other door issues.

I'm in lower Michigan as well and park outside. The past 2 weeks has been single digits and negative F. I also give her a wash to help with the salt build-up, so if water got into the crevices....it would probably have freeze.

So far so good.

I was just gonna ask if anyone had any car washes in the cold weather because that makes a huge difference. Thanks for that info

Brutal cold we are having for sure. February has become our nasty month for winter I think.

The fix by Ford for people with frozen door issues was to place a shield around the lock mechanism to keep the water from getting in there and freezing up.

I remembered that you mentioned that in a previous thread and I immediately set up an appointment to get it done at my dealer. I showed him your post and he said that’s what they did the last time I was there for it. That shield remedy was the 4th or 5th solution that the dealers were given by Ford.

It didn’t work for mine. I’ve recently learned that there is no guaranteed fix.
Ford chose to make the doors with these specific components knowing the risk because of the manufacturing costs.

The percentage of F150’s sold in places that don’t normally go below freezing temperatures are very very much greater than those sold in cold places.
So if they sell 100 trucks and only 20 of them will encounter the risk, it’s much cheaper to deal with those people, which won’t be the full 20, than to build all 100 trucks with a more expensive but safer part.

That’s very interesting. Thanks for letting me know this. That’s a real bummer that the shield fix did not work for you. My brother had a different result.
Hopefully the 2021 will not give you any more frozen door issues.

No problems so far. It just started getting a little cold over here like around -5C.
I’m so traumatized from my previous truck that I always get nervous when I close the doors after the car wash.

I’m in the dead of winter in Alaska and my doors don’t unlock anymore since it’s freezing. I have to use the actual key in the key fob on the driver’s side door. Once the truck has been running for a bit and heats up, they work. I can’t afford to leave it in the shop for a bit so I’m going to deal with this winter.
