I'm getting ready for my first oil change and did a little price comparison. Castrol Edge is my brand of choice and I have 3 retail outlets near by: Autozone, Advance, and Walmart. A five gallon jug priced out as follows:
AutoZone $37.99
Advance Auto $37.99
Walmart $27.48 I knew Wally World would be cheaper, but 2 bucks a quart? The savings pays for the filter.
Just sayin'.

You will find that purchasing from AutoZone or Advance, you will be paying more for oil than other venues.

I order 5Q jugs from walmart.com, comes the next day with free shipping if I order enough. Amazon is my go-to for everything else, but amazon vendors keep screwing up the type of pennzoil that I order vs. what they deliver. Walmart has been cheapest and execution flawless so far.

What 'other venues' are you referring to? If it's mail order wouldn't shipping costs offset any savings?

I usually buy Kirkland/Costco 2pk 5qt when they go on sale for $30. Makes it cheaper than SuperTech/Walmart at $19 for just one 5qt for pretty much the same oil.

Should clarify what I meant from venue (which probably wasn't the correct usage). What I meant was purchasing from Costco, Sam's Club, Meijer, Walmart etc., would be cheaper than most auto parts stores.

Anyone tried the Amazon basics oil? It's ~$20 for 5 qts and performed well on project farm YT.

autozone, o’ reilly and advance auto parts are convenient for sure but damn they sure do markup their prices significantly.

Look at their wipers as well, insane markup.

I don't think I've ever found anywhere cheaper than Walmart for oil.

Don't forget to be sure your oil meets the Ford oil spec. At least on my Powerboost it is WSS-M2C961-A1. I don't think Kirkland meets it. The Pennzoils I don't think do either. Or the Walmart SuperTech.

Mobil 1, Castrol EDGE and GTX Full Synthetic, Valvoline, Havoline, and Quaker States Full Synthetics do (check the labels).
