2021 Platinum Powerboost. Trans issues from the start. Mileage 18-19mpg. At 108xxx miles truck locked up partway into intersection. Towed in, hybrid module (motor) dead. $7650 repair.
Sorry to hear that. Must be scary experience being locked up into intersection.

Keep in mind that the actual power produced at zero tolow speeds can be nearly 2 1/2 times nameplate power.

Truck at 107,7xx miles. Ford standard "Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Unique Component Coverage" is 8yrs/100,000 mi. Bought Ford 3 year, 150,000 mi extended warranty for 3300.00 at purchase, timed out 3 weeks befor failure. Lame lifetime of ownership warranty from "Total Warranty Services" denied as they say not a Ford described "Powertrain" component. Headed to court with that one. freebe

What a load of BS. I mean did they think you modified it with a hybrid drive system yourself or something? Hopefully you get reimbursed for it.

Would you mind posting the part numbers listed in the repair? That way we can source the parts ourselves if needed.

Ford hybrid transaxle module P/N: ML3Z*7P209*A, $3173.33.
Codes DTC P2885 and P2884 engine disconnect fault.
This vehicle was in shop 5 months in first year for trans issues. Frankly Ford should warranty as the truck should have receives new trans.

It seems that RAM has an idea. Make the truck fully electric but have an engine solely as a generator to recharge. Genius out of the box thinking. Then again it will be a RAM.

Imagine the Lighting with a small engine to supply enough electricity to constantly recharge. No electric range anxiety.

Not sure the of economy of it but you get the power of electric and presumingly great MPG. Also not sure how it will work in the real world as a work truck or towing vs a suburbia truck.

Two issues with RAM: First, very heavy truck, note 8-lug wheels. Second, gas engine still small for towing continuously. Not that a Powerboost can, either.
Ford patented a system years ago for a drop-in box with integrated connections to the truck, mounting a gas or diesel generator and fuel tank. You would rent it installed by dealer for whatever time you needed, and then it comes out at end of rental.
BTW, Porsche was building electric hybrids in the late 1800's, as were others. Mazda is bringing the Wankel back as a range extender, others are looking at new engine configurations for the same. Jaguar mounted two tiny jet engine extenders at the rear of a car in the 90's, required warning labels not to stand behind car, as it would fuse your polyester pants to your skin!

Just had to same part replaced in mine along with a trans overhaul. Fortunately it was warranty on my 21 limited as I only have 46k miles. I wouldve hated to see the bill on that. Was the hybrid module the only part replaced of did they replace the aux pump as well?

i'd imagine that the average fuel economy can easily get to 26?
Define "average".

I"m routinely getting 20+ mpg with my Powerboost for the driving that I do to and from work. Winter time I'm in the 22 mpg range, summer time with stock tires I'm bouncing on the south end of 30 mpg. Not bad for a 1/2 ton truck. For reference my previous truck was a '14 EcoBoost with the highway 3:31's and the best I could muster on the same trip was 15.5 mpg, average though was 14.5 and getting closer to 14 as the miles racked up.

I too would absolutely love to be able to utilize the electric motor more, but I keep referring back to what the salesman told me when I bought the truck, "you're not getting a hybrid in the sense that it's going to give you astonishing savings in fuel, you're getting a hybrid with a lot of power and cool tech". As much as I don't listen to sales people he was right, when I went and added up my fuel savings it was only about $500 a year. Wasn't even really much to brag about. However the joy of having that electric boost when I'm towing, taking off from a stop, or light footing it through town on electric mode only brings a big smile to my face.

Still.....I wouldn't complain if I could get more of it.

By average, I meant the overall average across city/highway, and different seasons. Right now my lifetime (albeit still early as I have <10k miles) is 21.6.

The reason I am thinking for 26 was that I believe that the electric motor's power output is specifically selected to be about the same as when the engine is running at low speed. (aka, looking at the dyna chart of ecoboost 3.5, it is outputting about the same power at around 1200-1400 rpm?) So with enough battery power, I'd imagine that the truck can be powered a lot more often by the electric motor alone.

Note I am not complaining but just want to see if there are ways to optimize.

Interestingly, I read about Maverick hybrid's spec: it only had a battery size of 1.1 kwh while at the same time its electric motor outputs 126 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque.

FWIW, I’m getting around 25-26 mpg if I drive ultra conservatively in normal mode (commute to work ~20 mi with mix of highway/city)

My next test will be full tank in normal mode/same commute but driving normal. No ultra heroic measures. Curious to see what I get. Guessing around 21-23 mpg. Eventually going to try a test of full tank all in sport mode driving. I’m not expecting to get anywhere near 20 mpg lol. I’m trying this to see what the true difference is. Will it influence my driving? Probably not. I’m not looking to hightail it into work at 6:30am but I could see myself stretching the trucks legs at bit on my 8pm commute home.

As for optimization, I’m not truly hypermileing it. I’m just taking it easy & letting the truck do the guesswork.

Background: changed out nitto ridge grapplers to Michelin defenders & installed Livernois 93 performance tunes, running 93 due to tune. Those two alone made a significant positive impact to my MPG’s IF I’m not stomping on the loud pedal.
