ECU module programming guide using FDRS

After about 16 hours, I finally completed all of my updates. Thank you to @rugedraw for all of your support in this process. For anyone who is on the fence about doing your own updates, just do it. The process was not bad, and I don't think my truck would have ever gotten all of them via OTA. For those of you with outdated B&O Unleashed systems it is worth the time just to hear the difference the new update makes to the stereo.

I did the 6 hour update late last night, which then allowed a GWM update to show up, so I did that one, which then allowed an APIM update to show up, and now I'm stuck. FDRS will download the update for USB, and then claims a failure once it finishes the download. Are there any recommendations on how to get past this point? You may want to make sure your Hard drive isnt full

Just to be sure, did you format your USB correctly? And yes, be sure it is not full, because there are some APIM updates that take 5GB+ of storage.

I have about 32GB free on the laptop, and the thumb drive is a brand new 128GB drive that I reformatted to exFAT. I’m almost out of time on my 2 day license, so I may just leave it for now and try again in a few months.

Now to figure out how to convince Ford that the ABS controller is worth replacing since it has a memory issue (as defined by the DTC since I got the truck) preventing it from updating.

If you have time, I would log out of FDRS reboot and reformat your USB drive again. Make sure your laptop is staying awake during the process and you have no antivirus software running other than the built-in Microsoft, which does not seem to cause problems. And if it all possible, use an ethernet connection to your laptop instead of Wi-Fi I have used Ethernet for all my updates and never had any issues. Sounds to me like there is a communications problem either writing to the USB or during the download.

What Sync version is the truck on now? It is blank in PTS.

FDRS is showing an GWM update; not APIM. Did you get the one from earlier to go though?

So the APIM finally wrote to the USB? Did you get it to actually install in the truck itself? I've had bad luck with USBs the truck likes. FDRS writes them just fine but it really hates samsung drives for some reason when it comes to the actual install.

FDRS is showing an GWM update; not APIM. Did you get the one from earlier to go though?

I think I got it to go through, but it then said I had a new GWM update, this time requiring the usb, so I tried that. The GWM update failed on configuration at the end. Now it says I have an APIM update again, and this time it is downloading a lot of files. I’ll see what I get with that.

I’m using a sandisk at the moment, and it seemed to go through the process as expected once I plugged it in the truck.

I cleared the DTCs and attempted reprogramming, and it still failed. It fails pretty early in the process when running an internal procedure.

Is there another GWM update? Might try that first.
