ECU module programming guide using FDRS

Here is what I am getting this morning. Any help/suggestions?

I’ve seen this before with the GWM. It’s a server-related issue. Click on the TCU module and see if there is a tool to read the configuration data. If there is, run it and then retry the update. Here is the SSM for a similar procedure for the GWM:

Some 2021-2022 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC 4 may experience an error message during the gateway module (GWM) software update application which states Procedure Unsuccessful-
GetConfigDataFromGIVIS. This may be the result of a server related concern. To correct the condition, download and run the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) application GWM-Read the Gateway Module A (GWM) Configuration Data application. When the application completes, refresh and re-attempt the GWM-Gateway Module A (GWM) Software Update application. For claiming, use causal part 14G229 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

EDIT: Nevermind. There is no similar tool for the TCU. There’s a configuration tool but not a tool to just read the data to update the server.

updated TCU,GWM and IPC last night... 4 hours for the IPC is crazy. Amazing ford would think that would work with OTA...

I did my IPMA & IPC last time 7.5 hours total...lol. XLT is canbus to the IPC, that makes it slow.

OTA will use faster internal communication so IPC is more like 30 minutes after it is downloaded. I've been through the pain of manual IPC updates many times but the last update fixed it so OTA works for many of us. Try the USB option next time, it might work.

When I did my IPC update, I did not get the USB option. Was Canbus right from the get go.

FYI... New FDRS version is out. 39.6.2

Hi. I just got my cable and am downloading everything I need. From this page, is the FDFRS 39.6.2 the only file I need or do I need or do I need Steps 2, 3 & 4 also?

just the FDRS file.. do you have a motorcraft service account? you will need it to buy the license key.

Yes sorry. I see 39.6.4 now. During the FDRS installation it told me I needed to download and install the VCI software as well. Once that was done, the installation continued on without issue. I do have the account. I believe this is where you purchase the license from?

Yes, the FJDS is the one you need.

Do i need to be in the truck with the door closed to do updates? I have searched this thread but couldn't find the answer. I know some require a door open and close cycle for the truck to complete the updates. Can some modules be updated with the door open and others not? Sitting in the truck for 3 hours for an update to complete doesn't sound like fun,

I set a table up by the front wheel and run the cable through the open window. Just reach in and turn the truck on and off.
