I followed the installation instructions for the drivers. The Mongoose install app downloaded an update and installed. Then I did the three tests that Bob Mac outlines in his walkthrough, Install Check, Vehicle Check, and Device Check and all three populated as he has pictured.

I noticed when I unplugged the adapter from the laptop it makes the "unknown device dismount" sound, not the normal disconnected device sound. Same for when I plug it in, it makes the unknown device sound as opposed to the device mounted sound. Device Manager also shows that the device requires further installation.

Has anyone else noticed this as well? Is this normal for this set up?

Since the dealership has been less than helpful with regards to updates, this morning I took the plunge and ordered myself my own Mongoose.

Since I'm fairly late to the party (654 pages?!) other than the guides outlined in the first two posts, and the linked guide by Bob Mac, have you all as a collective group established any other good pointers for newbies heading into this for the first time? Ordinarily I'd be all about reading through the forum, but 654 pages seems a bit much to "catch up" on.

Thanks in advance!
Take your time. Make sure you have good WiFi and be patient. Be prepared to stay up late when you do the ipc updates ! I did it and I was a newby. It’s so worth it. I would read the first 30 pages of this thread at least.

If it passed the tests as in the Bob_mac document you should be ok.

I was surprised at how the mongoose came, just bare cable in a box lmao
Working on my updates right now, but yeah you’re right about the cable you think for almost $600 you get a nice carrying case or maybe a coupon to Dairy Queen ?

I started my long day of updating at 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning. That is when I hit run on the IPC module. i did it first because according to some other posts it was recommended to run the GWM first and then IPC. At first scan my GWM said it was up to date. For those who still have not done this, or are getting ready to, here is a time line of approximately how long each update took. Keep in mind that some modules have other updates within them that you do not know about until you start.
IPC took every bit of four hours
PCM only took a few minutes
ABS only took a few minutes
CCM took the better part of three hours
BCM only took a few minutes
GSM took a couple minutes
SCCM only took a few minutes
DDM took five minutes
PDM took five minutes
APIM took just over two hours
GWM took 30 minutes
TRM only took a few minutes
It was towards the end that I had a GWM show up in the list. So after all of that, and doing several rescans I still have the GWM and APIM showing in the list. But I ran them both and they were successful so they said.
I had a ton of updates, if you are gong to do this, do it sooner than later, it took the better part of 11 hours to get where I am now. They say when you are done to give your truck time to sync with the mothership and rescan so I will do that sometime today. The photos show the updates I started with and how it ended.

So question to the Ford update guru's, According to the "About SYNC" screen I am now at Version 22087, Rev: 415. But where doe that put me on the power up list here https://tonesto7.github.io/ford-pwr-up-info/ Not sure if I understand how to read the list, but it seems I am still not as up to date as I should be.

Keep going until you get everything done.
You have a ton of updating left to do.
Remember it's two calendar days on license so if you bought it Saturday 5/20 it's good until end of day Monday 5/22.

I started on sync version 22177 and it took a full two days to get current with 23xxx

There are a lot of modules updated in sequence before you get to the next APIM.

If you are lucky you will be able to use USB to update after you get past the difficult ones. Those run much faster and all that I was doing in my final hours of updates.

@SanJuanTech

You will repeat GWM APIM TCU a few times.
They don't always pop right back up during a single session of FDRS.
(follow along that Tonesto7 site and you will know what to expect)

Sometimes, just to be prudent, pretend to be starting all over as if it's another day. :)

Shut FDRS down.
Unplug Mongoose
Shut the truck down
(you can leave charger on, of course)
Get out of the truck.
Go pee and get a fresh beverage
Come back to truck and hop in and start all over.
Fresh FDRS scan.......

Let us know.
Everytime you see a new GWM or TCU update available.... Smile.... They are the gateway (pun) to the next Sync update.

Sunday mornings can suck because FDRS can go red down in the lower right corner. You just gotta outlast those maintenance routines and try a few minutes later

Ok,, well that sucks, but I will run them again and see what happens. However now I am getting an error when I try to run FDRS, Any ideas why that would happen?

Yep, seems to be going online and offline for the Ford servers. Says the user and password is wrong too, but I know it's not.

I couldn't do anything until around noon EDT last Sunday. FDRS kept having connection issues with Ford servers. All you can do is keep trying it every 30 minutes or so. From what I've read here the downtime can vary in length.

If I had known before I started the license can be used 3 days I would have started Friday evening to avoid the Sunday downtime.

Can anyone with an active license confirm if Ford is still down. I can log in, but still getting the "Internal Error" message. But yet, I get all green lights.

Try fully closing everything and opening again. It was very flaky for me last week and I had to close it out totally to get it to communicate. Similar to you it was only half working.

I believe there is also an option on the drop down menu at top.
