It's in the manual. Did you see any other alerts with it because it basically telling you to stop driving your vehicle.

Manual doesn’t give details on triggers as I’m sure there are many. Its just the general meaning of the MIL. Starting with pulling your DTC’s, should give you more info.

I've had that happen after not running the vehicle for a few days. It's happened on both my car and truck. I just run the charger for about 15 minutes to get it up to the minimum. The PL2320 or PL6100 has a display that tells you the SOC.

Or you can start the vehicle and let it idle a while to get it back up, or both at the same time, idle and battery charger.

If you have a charger/tender - use it to get battery to at least 90%-100% charged before running it on PS mode. This will help the battery a lot. My suggestion, charge battery overnight, verify if it takes a good charge and raises levels to 90%+. If so, battery is most likely in a decent state to maintain acceptable levels. If not, may be time to replace, as it could have an issue, or precursor to a battery issue to come. We use the charger suggested in main thread, and it is excellent.

Thanks Mike, strange because I drove my truck this morning and drive it daily. Surprised to see it that low.

I haven’t. Best practice is to put the truck on a battery charger the night before a programming session so you start with a charged battery. Putting a depleted battery on a charger and then trying to program is just asking for trouble. Most chargers can’t keep up with the voltage demands during programming so a depleted battery will only get more depleted, whether hooked to a charger or not. Running the charger in power supply mode will help, but is still not optimal.

I had it happen and foolishly ignored it. It turned out my charger wasn’t working despite all other indications showing it was fine. My battery died during the last APIM update and I had to run out and get another charger and let it charge overnight before luckily being able to resume the following day.

Luckily the process is mostly foolproof and I was able to wrap things up successfully despite this issue.

If you have the recommended charger put it Power Supply Mode and you should see between 12.9-13.3 battery voltage. In charge mode you are only "charging / maintaining" the battery which is fine if you had a fully charged battery.

IMO - Must people disable the Auto Start/Stop function on their trucks, I leave it enabled because this lets me know my SOC on my battery.
If I come to a light and it doesn't shut down, well guess what - battery low and it's probably because I haven't driven my truck for a few days. If it persist, I charge it over night.
If I come to a light and the truck shuts down then I know I'm good. Hit the Auto Start/Stop switch and go on about my day.

I’m fairly sure it’s ok to have the engine running for this stage of the APIM update, despite the instructions. Maybe Jesse can confirm. I did all of my APIM updates that way. All of the other modules I used a battery charger and power on/ignition off. Don’t assume that what worked for me is safe though!

Everything worked like a champ!

There is one last update, the BCM. Is that one now safe? I read there was some issues in December earlier in this thread. 501a Lariat is what i'm updating

FWIW, it was the 501a's that were having trouble. Personally I'd stay clear.
