TBH there was a lot of misinformation regarding the safety of this BCM update. I went with my gut feeling that it was problematic. In the future, I will NEVER install a BCM or other critical module update without a SPECIFIC list of the changes and what it fixes and confirmation that it is safe based on a significant number of successful installs *on the same year, and job#, and type of truck*.
With your history of BCM updates, I don’t blame you in the slightest

to be fair though, I don’t think it was misinformation, I think it was best available knowledge at the time

@Jesse-Infotainment. My truck has the dreaded quad beam LED headlights. I would eventually like to do the BCM update on my truck when it's known to be safe.

Do you have a way to see a list BCM strategies that would be loaded currently under the two part update. So that we can look back in a couple of months and see if they have changed or corrected the update so as not to fry the headlights.

I'm really hoping this update will eventually address BMS and charging system issues with the "short trip trucks" and I'm not really concerned about the tailgate issue we know it addresses already.

I do not have a guaranteed way. I do want to do one so I can find a way. I did hear from someone in the ME through Livnitup they did it and didnt have an issue

What they explained to me is they did the first half of the update and noticed the as build changed a line shown in the pic. They both were changed to 01. They changed them back to 05 and proceeded to the next half. They maintained their headlamp functionality with an XLT


Now this could be it because this line is the power output for the headlamp circuit. He had the same DTC and everything. Changed it back and said no issue DTC went away.

I cant confirm this. If I could do the update I could. Its hard to ask Simeone to spend $100-200 to find out.

The other possibility is to unplug the headlamp fuses while doing the update.


I have a few thoughts but again its hard to ask people to take a chance.

Thanks Jesse, I have 100% confidence that you'll figure this out for all of us. Hopefully someone will get there truck over to you to test with. I'd gladly hand you the keys to my truck to figure this out, but the transport cost round trip from New Jersey is a little pricey. ?

I'm close enough to make the trek to Jesse's place. But I have the wrong headlights.

My replacement led module/processor is supposed to arrive today. I’ll let you know how it goes.

No the software is showing the right config according to Jesse. Just during the update process seems to be causing the issue. Going from a 1 back to a 5 in that one block. Mine is currently showing a 5 after the update.

As Jesse stated pulling the headlight fuses before the update may help the led headlight module/processor from getting messed up. Good tip if that works!

Basically, there are 2 BCM updates. The first flashes software that is specific to the F-150 ML3T- which I believe is the one that changes the values to 1. Then once the first BCM is reported complete a 2nd BCM update is available which is back to being a universal file MU5T- which restores the 1 to a 5.

Also it seems to be causing other issues after the first half like the dome lights staying on and pulsing. So it seems the first half config is causing issues that mostly are corrected int he second half but why they do 2 configs is beyond me. They also do two LinBus and BMS initializations
