FYI......I asked a knowledgeable tech at my dealership as to why the higher login and he said it is because the update is to do with safety related changes.

Take it as you will...

I was told by a dealer tech that the BCM is related to enabling keys, so it was more a security concern/anti theft issue.

I’m not sure I believe what any of these dealer techs have to say. A very recent TSB calls for a BCM update and it has nothing to do with either safety or security—it’s to correct an erroneous SOC calculation in Powerboosts.

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN
"12V Battery State Of Charge Low" Or "Charging System Service Soon" Message In The IPC And/Or "Remote Features Disabled To Preserve Battery" Message Displayed In FordPass
25-2142
30 April 2025
This bulletin supersedes 24-2442. Reason for update: update the Service Procedure and Causal Part.
Model:
Ford
2021-2024 F-150
Engine: 3.5L PowerBoost
Markets: North American markets only

Issue: Some of the vehicles in the Model section above may exhibit at least one of the following conditions:

• "12V Battery State of Charge Low" message displayed in the IPC
• "Charging System Service Soon" message displayed in the IPC
• "Remote Features Disabled To Preserve Battery" in FordPass
• DTC B11D9:09 stored in the BCM
• "System Off To Save Battery" message in the center display screen
• No crank/no start condition and or a discharged 12v battery
This may be due to an erroneous calculation of battery SOC by the BMS, the software in the ACCM and/or the software in the TCCM.

Action: For vehicles that meet all of the criteria in the Issue and Model statements, follow the Service Procedure to update the BCM, ACCMand TCCM.

Thanks for the new TSB, I have a TCCM needing updating. Here’s what the internet says about the BCM.
In Ford vehicles, the Body Control Module (BCM) is a key electronic component responsible for managing various vehicle systems, including lighting, climate control, power windows, and door locks. A faulty BCM can cause electrical malfunctions and potentially prevent a vehicle from starting.
Key functions of the BCM:
Electrical System Control:
Manages the operation of various electrical systems, including lights (headlights, taillights, interior lights), climate control, power windows, and door locks.
Communication Hub:
Acts as a central control unit, facilitating communication between different components in the vehicle.
Safety Features:
Can be involved in safety features like anti-theft systems and keyless entry.
Common issues and symptoms of a faulty BCM:
Electrical malfunctions: Problems with lights, climate control, power windows, or door locks.
Vehicle starting issues: In some cases, a faulty BCM can prevent the vehicle from starting.
Abnormal behavior: Unexpected lights flashing, climate control not responding, or door locks malfunctioning.
Causes of BCM failure:
Collisions: Hard impact collisions can damage the BCM.
Wiring issues: Loose wiring harnesses or shorting wires can cause problems.
Component failure: Internal components within the BCM can fail.
Software glitches: In some cases, software issues can affect BCM functionality

So restricting the updating of the BCM to dealers is most likely around vehicle security/locks and preventing theft.

I’m not sure that necessarily follows. Fairly common knowledge that the BCM controls a number of systems unrelated to security. A casual look at the BCM fuse panel confirms that. A particular update can target any one or more of those many systems and leave the others alone. No obvious need to restrict a particular BCM to dealers or vehicle security professionals. These updates were never restricted prior to 2024.

I remember in the past servers were down sometimes for updates. Thought they did it on Sunday though…

Kinda strange these tests pass but I guess we’ll see when you get home.

New member here! Naturally I bought the cable and tried yesterday; just my luck. Hopefully I can get a refund or another license without having to spend another $50.

1-800-ROTUNDA, option 1, helped me last time I had issues logging in and my license got locked. I’d guess they’ll know their system was down and likely extend your subscription two more days.
